NYC Teachers - Delayed Opening Question
Just out of curiosity, would you have gone in if we had a delayed opening? If you had until 10am to get to school, would you have gone? Or, would a delayed opening pose more problems for you?
Edited for grammar

Re: NYC Teachers - Delayed Opening Questions
I'll answer my own question. I would probably have taken the train in if I had until 10 to get to school, but it took an hour and a half for DH to shovel this morning, so I'm home.

Re: NYC Teachers - Delayed Opening Question
I would have at least considered it! This morning I looked out at 5am (the time I would have had to leave) and said no way!

Yes, I would have went in. The roads were much better at 10 than at 7. The sun came out and melted a lot of the snow and ice.

Re: NYC Teachers - Delayed Opening Question
The issue is...our principal always says a delayed opening is for the KIDS (which makes little sense since MANY live close by..what do they need 2 hours extra for unless they are going to send buses out later?) not us, so it would not have made a difference to me..I would have had to be there same time and when I got up, visibility was poor and even at this time, no plow has come down my street!

Re: NYC Teachers - Delayed Opening Question
when we had delayed openings due to the transit strike in 2005, teachers still had to be in on time. the delayed start was just for students.

I remember that....but none of the teachers who arrived late in my building were penalized.

Re: NYC Teachers - Delayed Opening Question
I would have went in either way. As long as I am able to shovel my car out and get on the road I go in.
By me in Queens there was a lot of snow. Side streets were scary. A delayed opening probably would have been safer bc later more streets were plowed and salted.
The yellow buses are what make me nervous..I saw one that was sliding and couldn't stop today poor kids.

Re: NYC Teachers - Delayed Opening Question
From the schools I know of on LI delayed openings are for the kids and teachers are to make every effort to be there regular time.
So I would probably just stay home anyway.
If teachers didnt have to get there til 10 I probably would go in
ETS: in all my years teaching, I have only called in for 1 snow day and that was last year when I was pregnant. Today, by me the streets were plowed early and we didnt get hit very hard with snow, so I would have gone in (but I am on childcare leave).
