Heard about this earlier today. So sad.
Very glad to hear they caught the suspect though. Sounds like a real upstanding citizen with his 5 prior arrests!  Hope they catch the other guy as well!

Heard this on the news (radio) this morning, but they stated the reports were incomclusive if he was in critical condition or had died.

I pray that people keep this in mind, the next time they want to bash a cop. They are people, they are not all perfect, some make mistakes....but they put their lives on the line for us on a daily basis. This cop was a 22 year veteran. I am told that he was one of the most loved and respected cops in the 75 Pct. My heart goes out to his family and to his Brother's and Sister's in Blue. The tone in the 75 is very meloncolly today as would be expected...but this is a very active Pct, with a high crime rate. Please keep them in your thoughts today, and pray that God keeps them all safe.

This is just horrible As someone who has family on the job I can only imagine what that family is going through. My heart fealt condolences to his family, the 75 precint and the NYPD.

He was a good friend of my DH  They worked in the same command on the same tour for years.
He stayed past 20 years to save money for his daughter's college
for the repose of his soul and for his family.

I always say- it's easy to judge when your job doesn't involve the constant threat of being killed every single day.
It's easy to sit behind a desk and judge.
Run around the streets with a bullet proof vest on, carry a gun, get shot at, never know if you are going to see your family again, then you can judge.
This story makes me sick. What a disgrace.
This is why NY needs the death penalty.
These scumbags need to rot.

It was actually Brooklyn.
I think the hospital was in Queens.
So tragic I can't even think about it.

It was cypress hills Brooklyn. I have a family member who works in the 75th precinct. I can't imagine the somber mood they are all in today.
The officer "had been awarded 12 medals, including eight for exceptional police duty, and made more than 200 arrests during his career."
May he rest in peace.
