I pray that people keep this in mind, the next time they want to bash a cop. They are people, they are not all perfect, some make mistakes....but they put their lives on the line for us on a daily basis. This cop was a 22 year veteran. I am told that he was one of the most loved and respected cops in the 75 Pct. My heart goes out to his family and to his Brother's and Sister's in Blue. The tone in the 75 is very meloncolly today as would be expected...but this is a very active Pct, with a high crime rate. Please keep them in your thoughts today, and pray that God keeps them all safe.

I always say- it's easy to judge when your job doesn't involve the constant threat of being killed every single day.
It's easy to sit behind a desk and judge.
Run around the streets with a bullet proof vest on, carry a gun, get shot at, never know if you are going to see your family again, then you can judge.

This story makes me sick. What a disgrace.
This is why NY needs the death penalty.
These scumbags need to rot.

ITA.

It makes me so sad. its horrible.

To think he could/would of been retired.

May he rest in peace. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

DH is due to retire soon and was on the fence. I keep telling him. GET OUT. Get out at 20.
We will survive on your pension- trust me.
We won't survive without you though.
So freakin' horrendous.

This story makes me so upset I feel sick. Not only did it happen in a neighborhood my DH works in, but that poor man could've retired 2 years ago. Chat Icon My heart breaks for his wife and family.

My DH has 19 months left. I keep telling him not to work one second more. I want him home and safe ASAP.

The sad thing is- if they paid these cops the money they DESERVE for doing this God awful job, maybe they wouldn't HAVE to stay past 20 years - just to be able to afford to live, and to put their kids through college.
It's truly a disgrace that sports players get paid MILLIONS to play a freakin game and cops, firefighters etc- who save lives and risk their own in the process have to work 2 jobs, work way past retirement, etc- just to survive.
The values in this country are truly disturbing.

FYI:

Post launches fund for hero cop’s daughters
Last Updated: 12:41 PM, December 13, 2011

Posted: 1:39 AM, December 13, 2011

More Print Today The Post writes a $25,000 check to launch the Police Officer Peter Figoski Education Fund — which is meant to guarantee the education of the slain officer’s four grieving daughters.

Figoski, a 22year NYPD veteran, was shot to death as he answered a burglaryinprogress call in Brooklyn early yesterday.

The officer was devoted to his daughters: Christine, 20, a student at SUNY Oneonta; Caitlyn, 18, a student at SUNY Plattsburgh; Carolyn, 16; and Corrine, 14.

New Yorkers can never repay fully the debt they owe Figoski, to be sure.

But a contribution to guarantee the girls’ schooling would be a fitting down payment.

Checks should be mailed to: The Peter Figoski Education Fund

I strongly believe it should be- you kill a cop- you AUTOMATICALLY get the death penalty.

I am tired of degenerate POS dirtbags ruining our world and killing innocent GOOD people. Tired of it.

My dad is a retired PO who was on longer than 20 years. A POS like this almost killed my dad (oh and he had a woman he had kidnapped in his TRUNK while he was wrestling with my dad).

I am lucky he made it out alive b/c he was just like this officer, a bit too selfless and much too fearless. BRAVE. In this case, a BRAVE man lost his life, but that is not much consolation for a grieving family who really needed him and will miss him greatly.

Prayers for this family.Chat Icon

Re: NYPD Officer shot and killed this morning

My husband and I heard about it a few minutes after it happened because all his PO friends were calling around to see if everyone was okay after one of them heard on the radio at a neiboring precinct. It's truly devastating and I can't even wrap my brain around how much pain this family is going through. The clip of the news showing one of the officers carrying his bullet proof vest to the trunk of a car while he's being transported to the ambulance makes me sick to my stomach.

And then people are always questioning why cops are so "quick" to shoot. My DH says he would rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

This story makes me completely sick. My thoughts and prayers go out to this family. Such a shame because this pos should have been behind bars. People like this should have no rights, and we shouldn't waste the time, money or effort deciding on what to do with him, eye for an eye.

Re: NYPD Officer shot and killed this morning

Pete was a great guy!! I am heartbroken for his girls.. He has a very close knit famioy and there are all together @ this time.. His faughters are truly the nicest bunch of girls you could ever meet.. He and my husband are very good friends, they were in the same squad together.. Makes you wonder what the hell is this world coming to?? He didnt have to shoot him, he coukd have just hid in the boiler room until they left.. The worst feeling in this world is knowing one of your own is hurt, and leaving behind his beautiful girls. RIP

Can't stop thinking about this story...I can't help but think that it could of been my DH. I know what I was getting myself into when I married him, but the stories that you hear everyday can never prepare you. I wish and pray that none of us ever have to go through this pain.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Figoski family. I wish them strength and courage at this difficult time. My heart breaks for his girls.

This is exactly how I feel!!! Maybe it's because we have family on the job so we understand the fear we face everyday when they go out to work. My family member worked in the 75 for 5 years and like a PP mentioned- it is truly a war zone over there. Officers have guns- but so do most people on the street.

There is no death penalty in Ny anymore. It was found unconstitutional in 2004. I worked as a prosecutor and was amazed at what officers put up with and had to deal with on a daily basis. The fact that they have to make a decision in 5 seconds that could have a huge impact on so many lives is mind boggling.
