They are following what they are doing over here. Next you will have an earlier curfew. Then they will close restaurants (they are closed for a month here, for now).
They also started with the 10 for private gatherings. Now it is 5, I believe, but only from two households. There is no way to check on this, but people follow the rules pretty much here. Hence, the reason why people stand at red man crossing lights. There are fines that nobody wants, so I guess that’s why. I saw someone get fined the other day at the main station for not wearing a mask (it was 200 Euro).
They have had a curfew on alcohol sales since the summer so people don’t buy alcohol and sit by the river or in certain Platzes (it’s a thing here).
They have also put whole counties on strict lockdown. It’s those on the border with Austria, France, the Netherlands, and Czech. That bugs me because I want them to close borders completely.
They call it lockdown light here.
But it is slowly working. We are in the middle of our second wave.
I suspect they will close your restaurants for the Christmas season. That’s just my guess. Just go with it. I’m annoyed, but I also have the option of Home Office. We are just waiting for the next stimulus and rent package and people are complaining about that now.
Just go with it???? Tell that to the restaurant owners and workers who will lose their businesses and jobs. They can barely make it now and they want to close them up at 10pm. People have families to feed and we are not expected another stimulus anytime in the near future and unemployment is barely anything for some.
Fine, then don’t go with it and expect a full lockdown. It is your choice. But a light lockdown is going to happen and there is nothing you can do. You can always order take out everyday to support the restaurants.
It’s not really my problem that unemployment sucks in your country. The whole system there needs to be restructured, but based on your other posts, it seems you aren’t willing to pay more in taxes for that. You also said that you have been doing well these past few years, so how about you help out more. Oh yeah, you won’t because it is only about you. Guess what? It isn’t.
The sooner they get the lockdowns done with the virus will not overwhelm hospitals, as we are experiencing here. Restaurant workers will gather hospital bills because healthcare is not easy to get in restaurants in the US (I worked in the industry in the US for over 10 years). Oh that’s right. You don’t want affordable healthcare.
Until you are willing to support a system for unemployment, which has many tiers here, then please sit down.
You do realize that I have people very close to me that will and are out of jobs because of all of this. In 5 days they claim we went from 1%, which we had been for months, can’t even tell you when we were at the 3.8% they say we were 3 days ago. There is no need for another lockdown.
I do not need to realize anything. It’s sad they will be out of jobs. However, you support a system that does not take care of these workers and you are part of the problem.
I don’t understand your percentages as we don’t do that here for Corona. It is done by number of people pro 100.000 residents.
I don’t support Coumo who keeps closing us down. Suffolk county numbers per people tested.

Is there a connection to dining out and covid rising? I'm going to imagine with the contact tracing, it may be connected? Why else would you single out restaurants and bars - as if they aren't having a hard enough time as it is.
Could it be that those who are ok with eating inside restaurants are also ok with other riskier things and that could be it. not the dining out?
Also, I'd love to know how they plan on enforcing the 10 people rule in peoples homes.
We are keeping it small. 8 of us including 2 small children. Only the people in my "Covid Bubble" but I feel like those who want to live their lives, should. The people who are serious about covid can restrict themselves as always, like I do. I don't know - this guy is reaching here
The thing is- they aren't even targeting restaurants with a shut down. They are saying after 10 pm is the issue. The biggest crowds in a restaurant are between 6 and 9 though.
There is really no way to enforce the 10 person rule at your own private home. I mean if you plan to have a raging party of 100 people in your yard, yeah I can see it. But 12 people at your Thanksgiving dinner? I am not sure cops can even enter your home without a warrant if you don't want them to. I have to ask DH on that one.
Also aren’t restaurants already disenfecting tables once the customers leave? So why would they be of concern of high covid transmission?
Regarding the 10 ppl rule, what about households that have more than 10 ppl?
He'll probably tell you to send half your family to an offsite location for the holidays.
He said households of over 10 are exempt...
LOL. Well yeah, I'd hope so... Otherwise its like Sophie's choice on who gets to stay and which kids you you have to give the boot to.
That’s a ridiculous comparison. The rule isn’t for households of over 10 people. It is for having gatherings over 10 people from different households.
I know... it was a joke Relax.
A bad one. No need for the ‘relax’ comment.

Cuomo is closing down for a good reason. He isn’t doing it to just say, “hey let’s close down NY; nothing else to do.”
But let’s just leave everything open and let the virus run rampant. And now more stuff is coming out about the lasting effects after the virus. Your chance of survival is good, but your chance of being taken care of after it is poor because of lack of healthcare.

Re: NYS orders new curfew on restaurants
The Suffolk County numbers are posted here each day:
https://suffolkcountyny.gov/Departments/Health-Services/Health-Bulletins/Novel-Coronavirus
On the 8th, Suffolk was at 2.7% positive On the 9th, Suffolk was at 3.8% positive On the 10th, Suffolk was at 3.6% On the 11th, 3.4%
I'm not sure what those numbers imply, as far as closing things down, just that that is what is posted.

Re: NYS orders new curfew on restaurants
They may enforce hard core. They may not. They may not be able to. They may deal with the virus in a few months and this will all become moot.
Make no mistake about it, though. For every so many people who believe that they are exceptional or above the rules or incapable of detection, another number of people will suffer and/or die unnecessarily until we can prevent/treat this disease more effectively. For every so many people who flout the regulations, so many classrooms and schools and businesses will close due to spread.
Statistically, we are all worse off because of people who decide that regulations and mask rules are beneath them.
Interesting tie-in with the draft discussion below--most people historically went along with the draft because in wartime, it was seen as what was owed to protect society and the future. I am not saying that I agree with that. The selective conscription of teenage boys and boys alone to place themselves in abject harm is not something I think is appropriate.
BUT...now we can't even get people to alter their holiday plans a bit for one year and wear freaking masks in public for the greater good/benefit of others. It's both sad and telling.

Exactly.
No one is saying that it is ok that small businesses are closing. It's terrible. But we, as a society, have failed to create a system that takes care of the little guy. And now many of those same people (not all, but many) who vote for the people who don't take care of the little guy are the ones complaining about the restrictions. The restrictions wouldn't be as much of an issue if we had more of a safety net.
This hasn't gotten the attention it should have but after the confirmation of Coney Barrett the Repub led Senate packed its shit and adjourned for a few weeks WITHOUT passing coronavirus relief. Meanwhile the Dem led House has at least done its job (Heroes Act). And almost every single one of those Repubs got reelected. It's mind boggling the extent that people will shoot themselves in the foot to own the libs.
There should be billions - not millions, billions - allocated for small businesses and families out of work. But you reap what you sow, and unfortunately many people vote to elect representatives who show time and time again that they really don't give a shit about their constituents.

Because the German government takes care of its people. If our government gave a crap and behaved like every other first world country, we would take care of our people. Instead we bail out corporations who don't pay taxes and burden the middle class with tax cuts for the wealthy.
So those businesses that are affected by a lockdown, and anyone who is impacted, should just pull themselves up by their bootstraps. It's the American way right?

THIS. It's OK to have a safety net for the small businesses, but not for individuals, many of whom are victimized by systemic racism.
It is OK to tell high risk people to stay home if they can't deal with reopening, but not OK to tell people with mask sensitivity the same thing so we can have a safe reopening.
All the same hypocrisy again and again. Americans are tough and rugged, ...until they turn into demanding snowflakes who decide THEY are above the rules and need to be catered to.

Re: NYS orders new curfew on restaurants
This is from a Sherriff in Fulton County NY. I guess they do need a search warrant to enter homes... to answer my question from earlier in this thread.
"With regard to the Thanksgiving Executive Order, the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office will NOT be enforcing it against our County residents. We have limited resources and we have to set priorities, so obtaining a Search Warrant to enter your home to see how many Turkey or Tofu eaters are present is not a priority. We won’t be doing that. The only way to enter your residence is if we have a warrant, we are invited in or an exigent or emergency circumstance exist. We have three patrols a shift for 500 square miles, monitoring Family Dinners aren’t our priority. I trust people in Fulton County to use their own judgement on who and how many people they invite."
