Re: Obama And Che Guevara

I guess it depends on how you feel about Che.

But also this is at some volunteer's office. I have an anti-Bush calendar at my desk, doesn't mean my right wing company is anti-bush. Just seems like this one woman is pro Che.

I think this is stupid and no big deal. Look at the comments....Chat Icon

ETA: I know people who are Pro Pinochet, so there are 2 sides to everything. Some people think Che was a killer, others, a hero.

Che was a communist mass murderer. if that's no big deal to you, then I guess the cold war wasn't either.

It's not big deal that this ONE Obama supporter in Texas is pro Che. I actually have a LOT of pro Che friends. To some he's a murderer, to some he's a hero.

Whatever you think of Che,ONE person is not necessarily emblematic of the entire campaign, though I think hanging the giant flag was misguided on her part.

ETA: People like Che because he fought against oppression and the US INSTALLED dictators in Central America.

He was also head executioner, though some reports say he only executed people for things that were customarily subject to the death penalty at that time.

People like Che were installed by Russian and Chinese supported Communists. It is a big deal because of people feel it is OK to have symbols of Communism displayed during an American Democratic election; then we have bigger problems here than I thought.

It's always amusing to me to see people SINGLE out the issue of "American installed" dictators in S America, while IGNORING the fact that the communisst were just more active in seeking influnece in S America - And Castro's Cuba is a FINE EXAMPLE OF STALINIST STYLE RULE.

I think it's unwise to have that sign hanging (maybe she didn't realize it would ever be on TV?) but I don't see how has anything to do with Obama himself.

That doesnt change anything about the way i feel about Obama. He is not in charge of what other people who campaign for him have in their office.

Lets just link him now to Che and Muslim extremists etc etc. This is ridiculous

Clearly these folks feel they have a lot in common with Obama. I don't hold Obama personally responsible, however, I also feel he needs to move quickly to distance himself from Communist supporters, and needs to do more to vette out those who are opening Campaign support offices, volunteer or not.

To some Hitler is a murderer, to some he is a hero. I don't think it would be appropriate for anyone to have a flag of Germany with his face on it hanging in their office.

Maybe she is not informed about Che. Or maybe she has relatives who did better in Cuba since the revolution. Like I said, i know CHILEANS who LOVE Pinochet of all people. People could argue all day or all year about whether Che was a hero or a monster, but I think it's irrelevant, especially since the US view of Che is through the Cuban missile crisis, etc etc and a generalized panic over socialism.

I honestly think it has nothing to do with Obama.

ETA: I don't know enough about Che or the broadest implications of his work to make a judgement either way, but as i mentioned I do have a lot of friends who are VERY pro Che.

It's just more BS.

Some people think Obama is a secret "Islamo-fascist" (a term which makes no sense anyway), others think he is too dedicated to Israel!

Re: Obama And Che Guevara

The woman sitting at the desk is most likely Cuban (the visage of El Che is very obviously printed on top of a Cuban flag).

In Cuba, El Che is still considered a hero..a person who fought for the rights of the common people. His image is still found on Cuban currency.

This woman obviously has some strong sentiment about it or she wouldn't have that hanging right behind her desk for all to see.

Maybe it's a bad idea for her to put it there, but whatever, it has nothing to do with Obama's politics, only hers.

I'm sure people would very quickly learn about Che if a candidate of opposing view had a flag like that in one of their campaign offices.

I'm also sure that as soon as Obama's people got wind of this (it's smeared all over the internet - just do a google search), that flag was ordered to be removed ASAP.

it's very poor judgement.

and if someone working for McCain had that flag up in 1 of his campaign offices, it would be pounced on by the left.

Che Guevara, the chief executioner of Fidel Castro’s brutal revolution, was a bank robber, a cold-blooded murderer, an enthusiastic torturer and generally an evil, sociopath. He’s quite literally the poster boy for everything wrong with socialism.

Che was a supporter of marxist economic theories, class warfare and forced redistribution of wealth — Yeah...I can see how Obama supporters could be fans of El Che!

I'm sure it was removed, which only goes to show that it is not indicative of the views of the Obama campaign.

And again, not everyone feels the same way you do about Che. He is a hero/saint in Cuba.
