Ode to the Inappropriate Apostrophe
The apostrophe has three uses: 1) to form possessives of nouns 2) to show the omission of letters 3) to indicate plurals of letters
Just FYI: NONE OF THE FOLLOWING FIT THOSE RULES!! (Yes, they are all excerpts from the SAME email!)
We have plan's for Friday night.
I ordered so many nice dress's for the cruise.
His parent's are straight out of hell.
What color shirt's match with green pants?
We are supposed to have dinner with the McSmith's on Saturday. ---------- the McSmith's WHAT?!? Dog? Hat? Banana hammock?!?!?
MY EYESSSSSS!!!!!

My ILs have a sign on the front of the house:
The McSmith's
They drew the apostrophe in with gold pen because it "didn't look right without it".

OMG I almost peed
If I were you (or if that were my ILs) I would write in "House" after their last name, just to make it gramatically correct again

That's EXACTLY what I was thinking!!
We just had a memo go out from our HR Generalist team:
"Make sure to use your left over vacation day's before June 30th."

I once left a post-it that said "grammatically incorrect home - leave yo english at the do."
The sign read: The McSmith's Grammatically Incorrect Home. Leave yo english at the do.
bwaaahaahhahaahahaha No one else thought it was funny.

Re: Ode to the Inappropriate Apostrophe
My cousin bought her nephew a little sign for his room.
It said:
"Nicholas's room"
poor kid - we still call him Nichol-@ss - even though his mom was crafty enough to cover up the second "s".

"Nicholas's" is actually correct. according to the Chicago Manual of Style.
The missuse of the apostrophe drives me batty as well.
