OK, gimme the skinny....is the world gonna end in 2012?
My DH was practically having a heart attack last night watching the History Channel about the world ending in Dec. 2012....
I refused to watch......does this hold any water?

so far we're all still here and kicking...
So I don't put much faith in those things...

Did the show say where they were getting the date from?
I took a religion course in college and the teacher talked about how the bible and our calendar system dont match.. so technically we are either ahead of the bible or behind.. dont remember which one.. so if the show is going by bible, then the actual dec 2012 date isnt correct.

the thing about it is "scholars" or prophets from different times, with no connection to each other all hit upon this date (the solstice) as the time when great change will occur.
I find it quite fascinating. the Maya, the Egyptians, Nostradamus...all have this date. true or not, it is an itneresting topic.
I find it funny that we, as evolved as we are, can't believe in things that HAVE happened and could very well happen again (ie a meteor hitting the earth, global warming, ice ages etc) OF COURSE these things can happen again...even human civilazation has undergone periods of prospeperity followed by "dark" times. we are not immune to any of it, as evolved as we like to think we are.

everyone i work with and know has been talking about this and its driving me crazy lol
some of the point i have heard to why its really real this time
the myan calendar ends
the planets align up in some way that it happened 26,000 yrs ago and we had the ice age
and 3 of the profits say the same date

Interesting how all of a sudden people all over are talking about Doomsday coming in 2012, when a movie called "2012" starring John Cusack is coming out later this year. How much you want to bet that before the movie is released, we'll see a lot more tv specials on it? Great marketing!

The Maya calendar stops at 12/21/2012 or something like that.
The just stopped counting after that. Clearly the counting guy got bored or went out for a drink or something

yea I heard that too...supposedly its the worst parts of the bible coming to fruition
it has to do with a planetary alighnment happening where the center of our universe will have some sort of polar pull. Prophets and astrologers have said that it will release the serpent holder- which is a secret sign of the zodiac (in between sagitarius and scorpio)...yea I eat up this crazy crap.
The bottom line is we really don't know what the heck is gonna happen but I have my handbasket ready just in case

The winter solstice dec 21st 2012 is the date the Mayan Calandar ends. Thats where it all stems from....
On that date the sun will also be dead center of the milk way ( the so called galactic equator) .Mayans believed that this "spot" was a cosmic portal leading to the place of their creation.
Another thing given is that the solstice occurs at 11:11....And if anyone has ever read about it, 11:11 is a numerical enigma to many.
Add it all together and theres your TV special.
