I've seen all the specials and call me crazy but I do think we're gonners in 2012. My DH read a 2012 book last year and it mentioned some things that were going to happen prior to the world ending. One thing was that Yellowstone was gonna blow and change the climate of the world. There have been several small quakes happening lately at yellowstone and there have been articles about what may be about to come on cnn - like the entire continental US covered in ash and it would immediately change the climate of the world.

very good promotion for the movie, but:
John Major Jenkins, and others claim that an alignment will occur when the sun rises above the horizon on December 21 2012, at which point the sun will rise in the middle of the Milky Way Galaxy, thus causing an alignment between the earth, sun, and the galactic center. This event is said to cause numerous earth changes, however that is not possible considering that the event is only a visual phenomenon from the earths perspective, which is caused by the precession of the equinoxes or the 26,000 year wobble of the earth, which only changes our perspective, not the actual position of the earth in relation to the galaxy. In short, there is no gravitational force or radiation to be expected from this event because other than the tilt of the earth, nothing will be any different than any other solstice.

They had one on last night about all the Magma under Old Faithful and if it blows we'll be goners, (like what they think happened to the dinosaurs)...and it is set to erupt every 60 million yrs and it's like 40,000 yrs past due, uh oh!!!

maybe we're OK since the dinosaurs have only been gone for 65 million...we still have 535 million to go!

i say bring it lol, imagine the things you won't have to deal with skinny oprah/ fat oprah, annoying billyz mazy commercials marketing oxy clean and other random products, global warming. All I know is if this happens I'm going out with an entire case of white castle burgers washed down with shakes from sonics.

There's a LOT of spooky stuff about 2012. And sometimes I get a little creeped out.
But here's my perspective.. why panic about something that may - or may not - happen? The fact is that only one thing in life is 100% certain - and that is that it ends eventually. Maybe 2012 - maybe 5057 - maybe tomorrow. Can't do much in any case except enjoy the time you have!

so far we're all still here and kicking...
So I don't put much faith in those things...
ITA. Nostradamus (and others)predicited *several* apocolyptic events, not just one. How can there be several endings of the world ?

the thing about it is "scholars" or prophets from different times, with no connection to each other all hit upon this date (the solstice) as the time when great change will occur.
I find it quite fascinating. the Maya, the Egyptians, Nostradamus...all have this date. true or not, it is an itneresting topic.
I find it funny that we, as evolved as we are, can't believe in things that HAVE happened and could very well happen again (ie a meteor hitting the earth, global warming, ice ages etc) OF COURSE these things can happen again...even human civilazation has undergone periods of prospeperity followed by "dark" times. we are not immune to any of it, as evolved as we like to think we are.
I agree. Look at the polar ice caps melting, you can see before and after pictures showing how bad it is, then the global warming as an effect of it. NASA is tracking meteors in the event one might come close enough to wipe us out, we can try to blast it to pieces, just like in that movie with BEn Affleck and Bruce Willis. All things do come to an end. We are going through a major recession and our financial world will never be the same after this. Why does the Mayan calendar end at 12/12/2012? No one can truly say why. With all this being said.. I say heck if it is all going to end in 2012, I'm partying every day until then, racking up my credit cards and going to party with Sean P. Combs with some ciroc vodka! WOOT WOOT!
