OK Here we go...First IUI tomorrow...Ramblings of a TTC madwoman (UPDATE - p.2)
In cycles past, I only took OPKs in the evening after work around 4 or 5 pm, but this cycle, I started yesterday doing it twice in anticipation of a post surgical IUI. I suppose it is nerves and I just did not want to miss the surge. Anyway, today I got the happy face on the digital OPK after a blissful slumber at 10:30 this morning. Good news is that I will not need a sonogram on Wednesday - Dr. R told me if I didn't get a surge, I should have one. Thank goodness!
I read the instructions from NSUH for IUI for what you do when you get a surge detection on a weekend or holiday morning and it tells you to call between 8 and 8:30 to schedule a drop off the next day. I took a chance and called anyway and fortunately, someone picked up the phone and instructed me to come in tomorrow at 7 to drop off the sample and make an appointment with the doctor.
All I keep thinking is, "How can I do this without being late for work or missing a day?" Mind you, I have about 15 or 16 days banked very conservatively just for this sole purpose. So I figuratively slapped myself in the face and said "Eff this, I have a baby to make." My supervisor, is aware that I am at the mercy of my cycle in this process and has been very supportive (she is also a trained LaMaze instructor - go figure). I just hate leaving my assistants short-handed and we are soon to have a state audit so student/teacher ratio in my classroom is really important.
I will be dropping off DH's sample tomorrow morning in hopes that I can have an IUI done after work later in the afternoon, assuming the Dr's schedule allows it, but if not, I am taking the day off and sticking around.
So here comes my question.
On my last cycle, I got a positive on the OPK on Day 15 and Fertility Friend said I ovulated on Day 16 (the day of my surgeries). Today is Day 13, and with my surge detected at 10:30 am will I be ok for an IUI tomorrow even if it is done late in the afternoon? (Last night at 11:30 - no surge was detected)
Sorry I am so verbose and all over the place. I have been experiencing so many ups and downs this week not knowing what this week would bring in terms of how my surgeries affected my cycle but it seems that it is working out. My only true concern, at this point, will be that my cervix can accept the catheter for the IUI. I am actually at peace with the fact that even if they can get it in, that I may not conceive this time around, but at least I have hope that it CAN happen.
I feel as if this is truly the first attempt at TTC that could actually work for us - a fresh start. Everything that we have done up until now, had been futile.
I will surely keep everyone posted tomorrow!

Re: OK Here we go...First IUI tomorrow...Ramblings of a TTC madwoman
From my experience at NSUH you drop off the sample at say 7am and then it takes them a couple of hours to wash the sperm and then I always went back around 10/11am for the IUI. They like you to stay lying down for approx 20 minuts and then you are good to go!
You might find that you will be late for work and or miss days, all part of the IF fun I'm afraid!
Good luck

Thanks! Heaven forbid I should have taken a sub-list home and call from here. Oh well. I suppose tempting fate at this point would just be stupid. I'll go when it is best for me to go. This way, I won't be a nervous wreck at work and I will be able to rest comfortably afterwards.

Leslie,
You usually O 24-36 hrs after your surge is detected, and remember sperm can live for a few days, so don't worry (I know, easier said than done!)
I'm only 6 days behind you on the IUI (had mine on Wednesday), and I wish you the best!!

. So I figuratively slapped myself in the face and said "Eff this, I have a baby to make."
When you are a reliable and trusted employee with a lot of years of service, you can do the things that help YOU and you should not feel guilty about it.
As for your other question, To me if sounds like good timing. Can your doctor give you an idea of the odds for this particular cycle based on the OPK, as opposed to the odds for a random cycle?

Re: OK Here we go...First IUI tomorrow...Ramblings of a TTC madwoman
I personally think that my odds are the same as they would be if we conceived naturally with any cycle - if anything SLIGHTLY higher but not by much. I think I am better off not asking for odds because it will give me something else to obsess over. I think Dr. R is very conservative and realistic as well as honest. He makes no promises and that is simply better for me and my personality type.

I just saw this and wanted to wish you luck. Your timing is good and you will probably have two IUI's back to back.

Re: OK Here we go...First IUI tomorrow...Ramblings of a TTC madwoman
Drop off done. My IUI appointment is at 1pm. DH said he would come with me. In the event that it does not work out because of my cervix, he wants to be able to be supportive rather than me being alone.
