Re: ok so do you drive an SUV or a minivan??or a car??
We have a subaru outback, and toyota sequoia - I used to love the Subaru, but it's just too tight with Alex and all her stuff. I LOVE my sequoia. That thing is HUGE, fits everything and everyone comfortably, and I feel like I'm in a tank!

My lease is up in the beginning of next year and I am looking at a Yukon or Suburban right now. They have fuleflex vehicles but there are no stations around here which really annoys me!

I have a car--Ford Fusion and I LOVE it!
Honestly, I used to share my parents Explorer with them and it had LESS room than my car! It was all "trunk."
My parents have a Freestyle, which is a 3-row cross over. That is GREAT for large families. It fits 7 comfortably and you don't feel like you're driving a tank.

I won't even contemplate a minivan...it's like giving up a part of myself somehow...
SUV all the way...in fact, we just bought a newer version of the SUV we have so that we have room for guests and we're only a family of 4. (Explorer)

Re: ok so do you drive an SUV or a minivan??or a car??
We are a family of 5 too and a minivan works great for us. We have room for 2-3 more people, depending on how we have the carseats configured. The thing I like most about a minivan is that it's for the most part made specifically for family use so there are a lot of features based on that. If you are not opposed to a minivan I think it's your best bet. I know some people are anti-minivan. Just dont get a gray one. I picked that color for God knows what reason bc it seems to be the color of choice on LI. I'd say 90% of the minivans I see are gray. I wish I picked a different color. We have a Toyota Sienna which I like a lot. I just wish the seats folded into the floor. I think there's one minivan (town & country maybe?) where they fold in and it seems like a great feature if you want to change the configuration or remove a seat without having to take it out and store it in your house or garage. My SIL has a Honda Odyssey and she loves it.

Re: ok so do you drive an SUV or a minivan??or a car??
I am adjusting to life as an SUV owner (Honda Pilot). Our Corolla got flooded out and we decided to upgrade from a sedan. I miss my little car, but do like the extra room. I don't anticipate my ever driving a mini-van, but I'd never say never.

Re: ok so do you drive an SUV or a minivan??or a car??
I currently drive a Pick-up. I think we are getting a Trailblazer in the fall. We are trying to decide if we want the one with the third row or not....
ETA: I have only driven 1 car for the past 8 years - only pick-ups. We had a Scion for about 2 years, and I liked it for local driving, but not for my everyday commute. The last car I had before that was a high-performance car, so I guess those days are over for a while

Re: ok so do you drive an SUV or a minivan??or a car??
I used to have a Honda Accord and even with just one baby it was tight for us! We travel for overnight visits a lot so we need to bring a ton of stuff. Now I have an SUV (Lexus RX330) and I think it's perfect. It gives us the room that we need without being huge. But...if I had a family of 5 I'd probably have to give in and get a minivan!

Re: ok so do you drive an SUV or a minivan??or a car??
Right now we only have one car - a sedan (Nissan Maxima). We really need a second, but live in a city with only one parking spot in the garage on our building. We rented a minivan on our last trip back to LI and I loved it. It was so much easier. I'm leaning towards the Odysey or Sienna. But we also rented a Ford Edge on our vacation in Hilton Head and LOVED it, so that's an option too.

Re: ok so do you drive an SUV or a minivan??or a car??
Posted by CathyB How hard is it for people to get into the 3rd row? My friend has an SUV with a 3rd row and she says that it's hard to get at.
With the Acadia, it was so easy! I had borrowed it from the dealership a few weeks ago when my girlfriend was in town with her two kids and we wanted to go somewhere with my two kids. I had Andrew in the back (3rd row) and I was able to reach him and buckle him in from just standing at the door (the middle seat folds down). It's lower to the ground than a typical SUV and it drives much more like a car. It really is nice! I just wish I didn't have 2 more years on my demo lease.

Yes, the Town & Country has the Stow & Go seats, they're awesome!! We're constantly putting seats up or stowing them to accomodate things. DH and I were in the market for a new car when I was a few months pregnant, and after researching tons about safety, features, and storage room, we got a new Town & Country. I NEVER pictured myself driving a mini-van, and we're just about a family of 3 (any day now!), so it's not like we need tons of room...but some of my friends have smaller SUV's and with 1 or 2 kids, strollers, groceries, car seats, they're maxed out. It just made more sense to us to get a mini-van. Plus, it has the side curtain airbags, which sold me instantly!!
But I have lots of friends who refuse to drive a minivan, and I understand that. So they get the SUV's.

Re: ok so do you drive an SUV or a minivan??or a car??
We have a Honda CR-V and it's tight with the two boys. We need a second car and really like the Ford Edge. We rented one when we came to NY Memorial Day weekend and it was a nice ride. Eventually we'll get something with a third row.... DH keeps mentioning a mini-van, but I still can't wrap my mind around driving one.

Have an SUV... I'm not quite ready for a minivan just yet as I only have one child. I have the Lexus RX330 and it is wonderful.
