Ok to skip church for baptism?
Our friend's son is being baptized this weekend. The church is at 2 and the party at 6. DH wants to skip the church since it's a little bit of a drive. Do you think it's ok to skip the church and just go to the party?

Re: Ok to skip church for baptism?
I think that's fine.
Honestly, we went to a baptism last year for a friend I used to work with and we went to the church. We were the ONLY non-family memebers there. I felt kind of funny because I'd never met her family before...

I've always thought it was tacky to skip the church and just go to the reception for weddings, baptisms, etc. but it's equally inconsiderate to plan the reception substantially later than the event, expecting guests to hang around killing time between the two. Under those circumstances I'd say pick one or the other and just go to that.

Re: Ok to skip church for baptism?
Thanks ladies. We're not super close with them so I think we're going to skip the church.

Re: Ok to skip church for baptism?
Our son gets baptized this sunday and the church and party are spaced out pretty far. I have no problems with people skipping the church. As long as the God Parents dont lol

Re: Ok to skip church for baptism?
If its a Catholic church, they do sooo many baptisms on one day that the place is jam packed. I would think it would be fine to skip the church in that situation if you're not family.
