Re: Okay - so we all know money is tight...

Don't know if this helps anyone but I have been able to use unlimited coupons and formula checks at TRU(BRU combo store) Originally i did it in the games/video section, but also on the regular side. The Manager has even done it for me. I have even gotten them to take coupons that were printed form my supermarket receipt machine! Wonderful ladies on here have sent me their checks that they don't need-and Ronan will be transitioning to milk soon so any that I have left over I will buy as many cans as i can and donate it to pay it forward. I have also done this at Walmart by "guiding" the cashier that I have use dthese coupons before and they put them in manually.

I buy a lot of baby items at Big Lots. Right now they have tons of FP toys-most of them $10 or $20. I buy diapers there when they have them, puffs, baby food(was buying beechnut peaches and sw potatoes for 30 cents!) I have bought organic products there and many other items I was surprised to find.

Now that my kids are on table food-I go to Whole Fooids or my supermarket and buy a few pieces of fruit so trhey can try new flavors and I can buy organic since I am buying such a small amount. Yesterday-I bough cantaloupe(sp?) a pepito melon, a fuji apple and a gala apple.

Re: Okay - so we all know money is tight...

We buy generic meds for everybody (not just DD and DS, but for DH and I as well). We also buy generic A&D and drop-ins as well (love Target brand!).

I clip coupons every week and plan meals around what's on sale at the supermarket. I also cook in bulk and freeze leftovers.

We buy our organic milk at BJs and keep an eye out for when Target has a sale on organic milk. Occasionally we get a good deal at Wild by Nature with a coupon.

When DS was on baby food, I used to make it with my steaming pot on the stove and a hand stick blender. I plan to do the same with DD as well.

We stopped using Pampers on DS a long time ago and keep him in Luvs (from BJs). DD is a different story- she's in swaddlers for now and will switch to Luvs or a generic when she gets bigger (I'm too in love with the wet/dry indicator on the diaper right now). That's my only splurge!

In terms of clothing, anything gender neutral that DS owned is passed on to DD. I only buy DD clothing that's on sale/clearance or with a gift card.

We but Target brand diapers and wipes, Circo clothing is awesome and cheap, which is great for us.
The only thing I get nambrand is her formula because she is so sensitive, we tried switching her and didn't work but we use coupons for her formula. Target is awesome!

I've been getting most of DS's clothes and toys at garage sales. Chat Icon I got an rainforest jumparoo for $8 and a rainforest playmat for $2!

I like Costco brand wipes, and like Luvs as a cheaper alternative to Pampers.

I love Target!
We switched to all their brand stuff!
Not diapers but:

Wipes, Baby Wash,Shampoo, Conditioner, & body wash for mommy & daddy, and even face clothes for me (rather than Dove) Cleaning Supplies, and even garbage bags..

I get a lot of clothes for the kids in there and when I was pregnant even got some cute maternity & lounge pants there as well.

I clip coupons. I recycle glass & cans.

Save change! Change adds up quick!

If we are "bad" and go out, we mostly order off the $1 menu (Mcds, Wendys)

For shoes, we go to the Stride Rite Outlet rather than the store the mall...sooo much cheaper!

I know a lot of people are scared of them, but I cannot even begin to tell you how much money I have saved using cloth diapers.

Love target wipes, target vaseline instead of A&D.

Target diapers are good but you can't tell front to back without looking at the tabs. There are dots on both the front and back of the diaper. Chat Icon Chat Icon Most other brands have a pic only on the front so that you can quickly know which is which. I know this is minor but I have 3 in diapers and like to change all 3 in less than 7 minutes! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon . Trying to figure out front from back delays me a couple of seconds! ha ha

I can't take credit for this one but:

If you are a daycare mom and DC doesn't really do as well in generic diapers as they do in brand name - get the gerneric for daycare since they change them every 2 hours anyway.

.

FYI all Gerber babyfood users, Target has them 10 for $9 this week.

RE-diapers and generics. I really think the key to cheap diapers is to not be brand loyal. We are using Luvs this week b/c they were on sale and I had a coupon, they aren't my favorite, but I couldn't pass up the price. Next week we are using Huggies since I had a coupon and they were on sale on Peapod/Stop and Shop

Re: Okay - so we all know money is tight...

I check afullcup.com and slickdeals.net every day.

I print coupons. I check circulars and stock up on things when they're on sale (with my coupons too). I get awesome deals at CVS with their extra bucks, their coupons and manu coupons!!!!

TJ Maxx also has some good toys on sale all the time and they're usually for 1/2 the price. Chat Icon

I pay all of my bills through my bank and i don't need to buy stamps anymore.

When we want to splurge, i buy restaurant gift certificates for 1/2 price on beach1017's website.

Luckily i can for ds, but i buy all of his clothes in advance when they're majorly on sale (with coupons or discount codes). He's 16 months old and i have clothes for the next year and a half.

Re: Okay - so we all know money is tight...

Great post!

We buy the Kirkland wipes at Costco, as well as milk and bulk items.

I buy alot at Target - Circo clothes fit my boys perfectly and the sales! I also use their store brands with other stuff.

For grocery savings, I make a weekly menu on Sundays - I clip coupons or print them out online and go through the flyer. We usually shop at Shoprite, and buy some of their store brands, like bagel pizzas.

I'll get plastic stuff for the kids at garage sales if I see anything good. Chat Icon

Re: Okay - so we all know money is tight...

We also will only go out to dinner with the kids to restaurants on the kids eat free nights. Check around and make a list of the restaurants and days. My kids are notorious for eating one bite of a kids meal and it makes me nuts! Now, we just go where both kids eat free when DH and I get an entree. Most of the times my kids barely finish one meal, so we pack the other up to go.

Also, I have 2 cats. I pretty much get catfood for free. Chat Icon

I print coupons from Purina Give a Bowl all the time (the more computers you do it from, the better). The coupons were for $4 each, now they're $3.50 each i think. I go to the store that has them cheapest (usually for $4 or $5 at most- sometimes king kullen, sometimes target) and pay next to nothing.

I didn't pay for cat food for a whole year! Chat Icon

Or you can ask for them to be mailed to you. Put in various names and you'll get more coupons. Chat Icon

Specifically for LI...I'm no help...I live in Cincinnati now. Chat Icon Google "Kids eat free Long Island" and I bet there will be some mom blog out there with a list. I'm pretty sure Ground Round still does it. Most are Sun-Thursday or just specific nights of the week, never weekends. Within my local town, there is a Mexican place on Mondays, a Pub on Tuesdays, etc. I find the best way to discover which restaurants do this is to just start visiting the websites of local restaurants. I also find a lot of info in my towns version of the Pennysaver (if those are still around on LI!) Chat Icon HTH
