Re: OMG - She's so FAT!
Just throwing in my own observation here:
I've been thin and I've been overweight and back and forth.
I have found that when I am thin, I am a guy magnet, but women avoid me like the plague.
When I am overweight, I seem to be every woman's best friend, but the guys are nowhere to be found (except of course for the DH).
I am in the process of heading back to "thin" but that's solely for health reasons (heart disease is now on both sides of my family, and my brother is also having heart problems now).

To all that were offended by the skinny post...I never said anything negative about it, just that she was skinny. I never assumed she had an eating disorder or anything like that. I actually said she looked good, just very skinny. I am skinny naturally and get asked if I eat at all (and I do eat a lot) and it doesn't bother me. Sorry to anyone it did. I'm sure a lot of us have posted about someone being fat, skinny, ugly, looking bad or something negative related in some sort. Some people are more sensitive to certain things than others. I have never said anything intentially on here to hurt or offend anyone.
I can only speak for myself, Karissa, but I wasn't offended by your post. I had been thinking about the double standard for some time now...it was in no way an underhanded dig at you.
People don't usually think about the other side of the weight issue - mostly b/c of what society has instilled in us so I'm glad this discussion stayed on a mature level

Speak for me too - that's exactly what I was going to write. Karissa - I'm sorry that it was your post that was the proverbial straw.

Thank you Suven - that is the point that I was trying to make, I just wasn't nearly so eloquent.

Re: OMG - She's so FAT!
Basically, if nothing else, I hope this thread sparked some thought in everyone that may not have thought about it before.
To see a picture of someone who has a very similar build as you and have everyone be poking fun at it, saying she's way too skinny, she musn't eat to keep that figure, she's gross, she's unattractive... Well, quite honestly, it's offensive. I do believe that people are taught to be more sensitive about the other end of the spectrum (at least as adults) than this end.
I just hope that after this, people will think twice before assuming someone - anyone, celeb, real person or otherwise - musn't eat in order to stay so skinny. Maybe that's some people's experience in that they would have to actually stop eating to be that thin. However, it's like assuming that someone who is overweight must have gotten there by eating 2 boxes of Krispy Kremes a day. That's what it would take for me to become overweight so, following the same logic that people apply to thin people, that must be what it takes for everyone to become overweight. Obviously that's faulty logic, but it's faulty on both accounts.
Thank you, Colleen, for bringing this up. It's usually a taboo subject.

Whatever "side" of the weight spectrum we are on, people are always going to be sensitive about weight and comments. I cannot tell you how many times I've been told that I have "such a pretty face" or what a "knockout" I'd be if I lost weight. It totally devalues you as a person to hear comments like that.
I get these comments ALL THE TIME.

They guy who introduced me to mike actually SAID that to me (along with some others)

Thank you - that's very nice of you to say. Apparently, in some people's warped thinking - you can not be heavier and pretty!

Thanks girls. I really felt bad reading this post and felt the need to apologize in case I hurt anyone. I never have any intention of doing that to anyone. Love you girls!!!!

Not sure - ask the people who hold it And believe me, there are PLENTY of people who do.
I have agreed with points made in this thread... BUT i have to say....i havent' seen that stereotype...
.....?? I've seen plenty of overweight ladies that are rude beyond believe and thin girls that are the sweetest, so I don't really see this stereotype being true, it all depend on the person .

That is soooo true!! I get those comments too...about the pretty face and how beautiful I'd be IF I lost weight. I guess I'm ugly because I'm fat
