OMG! I got out of Jury Duty!!! EDITED W/A QUESTION!
I called the office and explained that I served in 2003....just over 4 years ago. I told the woman that I just got a new job and I sounded really frantic. She goes, "Okay, sweetie. It's just over the mark. We got you b/c you changed your name. Good luck in your job; we'll get you next year."
YEAHHHHHHHHHHH!
I called to see if I could get something in writing as proof if God forbid anything. She told me they offer nothing in writing, but that I was fine. I asked her if I was going to jail! She's like, "Please, Miss, you are fine." I could tell I was on her nerves....so let's hope she just entered it in the computer....

It will be fine.
Years ago I received a must appear jury duty notice but it was when my father was basically dying. It was before cell phones and there was no way I would be in the situation where I was not accessible 24 hours a day. I called and explained my situation and the clerk said not to worry about it - my name would go back into rotation but nothing would happen to me legally. I never heard boo from them other then a notice to servce a few months later.
I am glad it worked out for you!

When I was called I got out because it came to the wrong name. But you usually have to submit something in writing so they have a record of it. They don't have to give you anything in writing.

I know someone who throws their jury duty notice out every time he receives it in the mail (never even opens it!) and he hasn't gotten caught yet...he's in his late 50's!!!
