they are saying they can't fight the fire in the canyon near where I live. They are thinking the homes are a total loss in there

OMG this is so devastating! Also i heard on the news that ,president bush will being coming to california on Thursday... He should be on the plane 'TONIGHT' not Thursday... I 'm praying that it rains by you guys Real soon... sending rain vibes to califorinia

Phyl, I've been checking this thread all day. I can't imagine what you're going through. I hope all of your homes (your mom, your sis & you) survive this, and more importantly that you and your family get through this. I'm definately praying for you! And I don't ever say that if I don't mean it.

It's 100 degrees at my house and the winds are still bad. It's so smokey and I hear that it might take 2 weeks to get under control
It's still bad over here and in my sisters area. There are fire storms that are just out of control and exploding all over in the canyons.
I have to stay inside because I can't breathe outside
We are finally getting more help . The freeway was backed up at Chapman ave. the street that turns into the Santiago Canyon Rd. and there were 5 more engines going up to help out

Wildfire: The latest on the Santiago fire
The Orange County Fire Authority's four helicopters have been joined by four air tankers this afternoon, the first time large-scale aircraft have been used to fight the fire since flames broke out Sunday. Fire officials began using planes to drop Foscheck, a flame-retardant, on the hills above Cook's Corner, a tavern and resturant at the corner of Santiago Canyon Road and Live Oak Canyon Road. - 3:06 p.m.
About a dozen homes are burning on Santiago Canyon Road between Modjeska Grade Road and Modjeska Canyon Road. (Map here) Propane tanks can be heard exploding. Firefighters allowed some structures to burn that couldn't be saved. Firefighters from Newport Beach, Huntington Beach and Los Angeles are foaming houses that they think can be saved to try to provide protection. "It could be that dozens have burned," said Capt. Stephen Miller of the Orange County Fire Authority. He said numbers haven't been confirmed.- 2:49 p.m.
The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California has reported a 652 million gallon spike in water demand as a result of the wildfires and heat throughout the region. Bob Muir, a district spokesman, said most of the burden has fallen on MWD's Skinner Treatment Plant, which supplies San Diego County and southern Riverside County. While he said that the current water shortages in Southern California obviously take a back seat to firefighting, the drain puts more strain on an already beleaguered system. - 2:42 p.m.
