On a wing....

I love the misuse of phrases I see on the internet. It's kind of like the whole Misheard Lyrics website. There should be a spin off of misused phrases of the English language.

Was just reading a Yelp review and the person wrote:

"I came to this nail salon on a WING, because the woman I use at my regular salon was on vacation."

A wing eh? A wing and a prayer?

I also saw this in another review:

"The service was very slow. Grant it, they were very busy on a Saturday night, but...."

Grant it? I think it's granted..

I really want to compile a list of these!

Re: On a wing....

it's funny that you post this. i was on pinterest, last night and saw something along the lines of... "phrases you're probably saying wrong." it was a list full of the type of thing you're saying. i was a little miffed because i don't say a single one of them incorrectly lol and they assumed i did.

yes, a list of these misuse of these phrases would be very funny. the sad thing is that too many people wouldn't get the joke.

eta: when i read the subject, i thought you were going to share how you did something "on a wing and a prayer."

Well apparently this woman went to this nail saloon on a wing and prayer.
And a whim.

What’s a nail saloon? Chat Icon Sorry, had to call you out on that!

IPhone auto correct and typing has been really awful lately. I’m going to give this person the benefit of the doubt.

Ha! Typing fast. But now that you mention it, a nail saloon might be a great business idea!
Have some cocktails while getting your nails done!

I thought of auto correct in this case but would whim be corrected to wing?
Maybe.

I just love reading these... there are so many misheard sayings.

I remember having an argument with my friend years ago because she insisted the line in pretty woman was
"Listen I appreciated this whole romance thing you've got going on but, I'm a SHORT thing"

I had to go online and look up the script to show her it was, "I'm a sure thing"

That one I never got.

They just opened a nail salon that serves wine called "Polish" but I think "Nail Saloon" is a much better name.

It is a great idea, but I’m sure I’d mess up my nails while drinking.

On a wing....

I’ve noticed recently that most people write sequence when they mean sequins. Makes me crazy.

And I hear "draw" instead of "drawer" a lot. I could be hearing an accent, but I've seen it written incorrectly too.

I see a lot of people say "it got so much worst" "i am feeling so much worst now than earlier today"

....instead of worse. WHY?!

DH always says he's so strung out when he means stressed out. No matter how many times I explain that strung out implies drug use he still does it. I've told him he'd better not use that phrase at work!

Not exactly the same but a while back I was watching the news and they were showing a deli that was robbed or something. As they show the front of the building it clearly had written SANDWISHES written on the awning. Not as a joke, as in they sold SODA/LOTTO TICKETS/BEER/SANDWISHES. I had to rewind the the DVR over and over and was laughing so hard I cried. Chat Icon

Wow. Chat Icon
You would think whoever made the awning for them would have maybe said something or fixed it on their own?
Or maybe it was the awning company that spelled it that way!
