One last poll.... credit card debt
I'd prefer to keep this totally anon, but if you would like to respond you are welcome to
(inspired by a conversation with a friend yesterday)
How much credit card debt do you (and your DH) have? This does not include car payments or student loans.

none! and proud of it.
we use our debit card 99% of the time so we don't have to worry about paying for anything later.

Re: One last poll.... credit card debt
right know we are taking advantage of some 0% time offers that Citi gave us to furnish our house, so we have about 15k in cc debt right now.
at least 10k of that will be paid off by March.

Re: One last poll.... credit card debt
We use our debit cards or cash for pretty much everything but since we're finishing up the last little bits of our extension we're using our CC's that have 0% interest.

Re: One last poll.... credit card debt
Right now nothing.
But I use my credit cards for almost all my purchases to get my 1.25% cash back (with 5% cash back on gas).
If I used a debit card for all my major purchases I'd be losing out on a lot of free cash.
The only thing I use my debit cards for are tiny under $5 purchases that I need to make to qualify for my 6% rewards checking interest for my savings.

What kind of card do you have? DH and I both have citicards and when we first signed up it was 5% back on groceries, gas and prescriptions and 1% back on everything else but now I think it dropped to 2% on those, 1% on everything else. Your card sounds great!
We put almost everything on CCs because it's easier for DH to track in Quicken and we get the free $$$ back but we pay off our balance at the end of each month.
The only card we have a balance on right now is DH's best buy account. It was 0% financing for 18 months, and we're going to pay the rest off in Nov (the 14 month mark). I freaked out because I'm very anti-carrying a balance (never have) but DH had to hammer home that it's free money. We have the $$$ in savings to pay it off now (and did when we bought our TV) but it's making 3% in ING and costing us nothing to borrow right now. We're paying it off 4 months early though bc I'm nutty and wanted to make absolutely sure we weren't somehow late, in which case all of the back interest is reinstated.

Absolutely no debt at all. Just the mortgage we have.

Re: One last poll.... credit card debt
Normally, none.
But we did have an emergency, actually, a couple of things that happened unexpectedly with DH's car and the house that could not wait, so we had to put it on the CC. We took the balance and transferred that to a 0% intro rate card and will be paying it off within a couple of months.

We have 0% debt from some purchases for the house. Other than that, we pay off our cards in full each month.

Right now I am using a Pentagon Federal Credit Union Visa card. It's an out of state credit union.
If you want a juicy card with excellent rewards look at this.
CITI AMEX
15k Thank You Points after the first $300 in purchaes.
5x Thank You Points for every $1 spent at drugstores, gas stations, and supermarkets.
3x Thank You Points everywhere else for the first 24 months.
$125 annual fee waived the first year.
So for one year you are essentially getting a free $150 gift card (15k initial thank you points), and 3x everyday purchases.
Reap the rewards for a year, then cancel the card in a year before the annual fee hits. Reapply two weeks later if the offer is still around.
If you qualify for Citigold, I think you get the annual fee waived every year (but don't hold me to that). But the triple rewards only lasts for 24 months anyways.

That citicard looks pretty good -- I'll show it to DH. What can you get with the points? The good thing about our card is you get cash back, so after you rack up $50 in rewards you can just have them cut you a check

Re: One last poll.... credit card debt
We have a small balance on a 0% card that we could pay off but, we don't because it's at 0%. Other than that, we pay our balance in full every month.
I'm a big credit card user. My main card is a Starwood American Express - we very seldomly have to pay for lodging when we travel - as long as there is a Starwood Hotel in the vicinity.

Don't be surprised if you Apply and Citi gives you a crappy limit (like 5k or something like that). Don't worry because if it's a daily spender (you pay off every month), then the limit really doesn't matter.
Cash back is always good, but triple gift cards are better IMO. Especially when you can usually sell gift cards on ebay for close to what they are worth (if you absolutely insist on not being able to use any of their gift cards).

Re: One last poll.... credit card debt
I had quite a bit of CC debt before we got engaged. I managed to pay it all off before the wedding
DH is much smarter with money than I am.
I was pretty foolish, not realizing how much all that interest was costing me. I thought I was *fine* as long as I could pay off a little more than I owed each month.
Now, if we use CCs at all, we pay the balance off entirely at the end of each month.
No more interest eating up our money!

i have a similar card as well. AmEx blue cash. no annual fee. i pay in full so i don't pay interest. i earn 5% back on groceries, drugstores and gas, 1.5% back on everything else. i got $800 back last year. i put more and more on this card all the time, all things i would pay cash for. like my cable/internet/phone bill and now my oil bill! the only downsides are: not everyone takes AmEx, you only get your cash back once a year (but i actually like this b/c it's a big amount and i can spend it on fun stuff) and the first $6500/year you spend you don't get the same great return. check it out. i LOVE AmEx!
