Re: opening gifts at 1st birthday party
I think it's a lot to ask of a 1 year old- to have to sit still for that long and to let them open a gift, see it, maybe get excited about it, and then take it away. I've always hated that at 1st bday parties. I think it's not fair to them. JMHO. That being said, I know sometimes family members, esp. older ones, are expecting the gifts to be opened and would be upset if they aren't- so you have to know who you're dealing with and decide which would be worse.

Re: opening gifts at 1st birthday party
We didn't - I thought about it but it would have just been too much. I think most 1st bithday parties I ahev been too (large ones) no one has.
I was also running around too much to have been able to do that.

We did, but we had about 40 ppl. I know I like when other people do it so we decided to do it. Actually a couple people asked when we were going to open gifts. It was fun!

We did not open them at the party. My MIL was at the house after the party though and we opened them with her.

We didn't open at the party or even that day, the next morning he opened his gifts and even then he got "bored" halfway through.

Re: opening gifts at 1st birthday party
We won't. We have a big fam and no one ever opens gifts at a first bday b/c it would just take foreverrrrrrr- esp if dc is helping, lol.

We're not planning to. I'm thinking we may just open them the following day which is her actual birthday.

Same here-I like to see presents opened at the party, but I understand why some people don't.

Re: opening gifts at 1st birthday party
What does your family normally do? I didn't really want to, but we did anyway because my family would be disappointed if we didn't (they always do). We had ours in a restaurant, only maybe 45- 50 ppl.

Re: opening gifts at 1st birthday party
DS is 3 and we have not opened any of his presents at any of his birthday parties. The amount of time it takes him to open them is crazy. And expecially at 1, he didn't really get it.

Re: opening gifts at 1st birthday party
We didnt because DD was exhausted towards the end of the party and would never have made it through opening the gifts. DH and I opened them that night and saved a few to open with her in the morning.

Re: opening gifts at 1st birthday party
we didn't and we only had about 50 - it took my son an entire week to open his presents - because when he finally got it open - he wanted to play with the toy - and i opened all the clothes boxes

Re: opening gifts at 1st birthday party
We won't be opening them at our party tomorrow (50 people). I'm pretty sure that DS won't understand it and will probably be more interested in the wrapping paper than the toys. Plus it's a lot for him to sit through. His actual birthday is Sunday (OMG! He'll be ONE!) and that's when we'll give him our two big gifts and have him open some of the others.

I don't think we will. I will probably wait until their actual birthday. The party is Saturday and their birthday is Wednesday.

Re: opening gifts at 1st birthday party
I had 30 people at a restaurant and we did not open them there.
I thought it might be confusing to keep track of. DD (and I mean myself) had more fun opening them at home later in the day.
