Re: opening gifts at 1st birthday party
i had a very small first bday party. my daughter opened her gifts as people gave them to her. it was perfect, but again, it was really a small party. my friend had a bigger party for her son. she did not have him open gifts there. I also went to a party for a 3yo recently and he did not open presents there either

Re: opening gifts at 1st birthday party
I had about 60-70 people and we didn't open them. It would have been too much for DD. Plus, DD would have cared more about the paper and boxes than the actual presents.

Re: opening gifts at 1st birthday party
We didn't have Charlie open any gifts at her 1st or 2nd bday parties. I'm not a fan of it in general...

Re: opening gifts at 1st birthday party
we had about 50 people at a restaurant.
I never even thought about doing it. A few people asked that I have her open their gift because they wanted to see her expression. That was fine with me!

Re: opening gifts at 1st birthday party
we did not open at party (we had over 100 people and it was in the park)
we opened them at home, and took a picture of DD with each gift everyone gave to her and then her sitting in the middle of all her gifts

Re: opening gifts at 1st birthday party
no. we didn't at the 1st bday, he opened them the next morning, and boy did it take alot of time.... when we had my family - gifts from 3 families we did it in front of them cause the kids wanted to see and it took a while, he'd crawl away from it at times, etc....

Re: opening gifts at 1st birthday party
We did....
weren't planning on it, had 60 people at the house.
So glad we did - we all really enjoyed it - everyone went out of their way to get so many nice things for her.

Not sure. Probably do it at the house afterwards. Might be too much.

Re: opening gifts at 1st birthday party
We took all the gifts home and opened them the next day with our DD when she wasn't so tired and overwhelmed. Honestly, nobody really wants to watch a 1 year old open gifts and with that many people everyone will lose interest. I would take them home.

We opened them the morning after because everyone crashed when the party ended.

Re: opening gifts at 1st birthday party
I'm not planning for it. We're having about 100 people and it's only a 3 hr party. There's just no time for opening presents, and besides, DS will be so overstimulated by the people, entertainment, etc... that presents will have no significance for him. If family members (esp older ones) get annoyed, they're welcome to come back to the house if they like AFTER we clean up and pack up. (translation: no one is coming over afterwards)
