ORAL SURGERY: Wisdom Teeth
My dentist has been telling me for years to get them out - all of them they are impacted. I've been putting it off becasue I'm a chicken and they don't hurt. And know I think I really have to go and make an appointment, because my lower left one is pushing through more yesterday and today.
My boss when and he got all 4 out the same day and then came into work the next and looked like he never been there. He is the same age as me 28 -- I'll be 29 on the 14th.
And I figure I take them out now, before I start TTCing or even PG.
I want to do some research on his Dr., where can start?
Anyone get all 4 out at once? Is it a good/bad idea to do all 4 at once?
I'm scared of being knocked out and not waking up. How did they do it for you? How was the recovery?
I'm so scared... Image Attachment(s):

Do it!!! It hurts for a few days but it's better than a tooth ache!!
I went to a doc in Hampton Bays. He was FABULOUS. I got gas, valium, novicane and knocked out. They only put you slightly under so it wasnt so bad. I did 2 at a time so I could eat on one side of my face since I just had a baby and needed nutrition.

Re: ORAL SURGERY: Wisdom Teeth
Mine were a wreck & I'll tell you it was not that bad. Plus they gave me good drugs afterward. I was exhausted from the anesthesia, but I was fine after a day or 2. I forgot, definitely use Ice. I had no swelling at all.
DEFINITELY get it done before TTC or PG.

Re: ORAL SURGERY: Wisdom Teeth
I had in done a few years ago... an oral surgeon in hauppage. She was wonderful!
I had all 4 out at the same time, I was so scared- I had to be put under-IV and all... I knew if I didn't get them all out at the same time, I knew I would not go back to get the rest done!
It was a few days before Easter and I was able to eat Easter dinner- slowly, but I ate. I felt a bit crummy the day of, I slept a lot- NOT in pain- take your meds... just tired, more from the meds and being knocked out then the wisdom teeth being out...
I did not have any swelling at all... used ice to prevent it.
do everything the doctor told me to do and had no problems at all!
Good Luck! : )

Re: ORAL SURGERY: Wisdom Teeth
I did it a year ago - it was cake. All 4 at once - all were inpacted sideways, and still in the bone.
The key is ICE!!! Ice your face constantly - I had virtually no swelling for what went on in there....
I used a great surgeon - he has an office in Huntington and 1 in Centereach. I'd be happy to share the info if you're interested.

Re: ORAL SURGERY: Wisdom Teeth
Honestly, would get 2 out on one side and then the other 2 on the other side after. I did this so I would be able to chew on the "good" side.
As far as pain though, its nothing. Just get totally knocked out. After I got mine out I didnt take any pain killer after, not even advil.

Re: ORAL SURGERY: Wisdom Teeth
I had all 4 removed a couple of years ago because I knew we were going to start TTC and the last thing I wanted while I was pregnant was an infection as a result of them still being there!
I've been through a lot of oral surgery (all my baby teeth had to be extracted, plus other issues) and this by far was the easiest! I also think my surgeon was EXCELLENT!!! (I experienced complications from the extractions, but that's because I have a bleeding issue.)
Dr. Sand in Huntington!!! I highly recommend him if you're near the area!!!!

Re: ORAL SURGERY: Wisdom Teeth
I had one done, and then the other three together. I didnt have any issues, when I got the 3 done I slept for the entire day but was eating that night. I had no swelling or anything!
I say just do it before you have issues because it was a horrible experience when the one started to come in (with no room mind you) I was up crying every night until they gave me pain killers!

Re: ORAL SURGERY: Wisdom Teeth
I had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled at once. I figured, four should hurt about the same as one, so might as well get it over with in one shot. I had one impacted tooth, so that one overshadowed the other 3, discomfort-wise. I also had 4 regular teeth pulled when I was a teenager, for my braces. (I can't be accused of having a big mouth! )

Re: ORAL SURGERY: Wisdom Teeth
Dont have just 2 out. You will never want to go back! Do all 4 at once. I did, impacted, sideways and everything. It was fine.

Posted by MrsSupermarket My doctor is in Manhattan. I can give you his info if you want.
Thank you for all of your stories -- they are very encouraging.
Also thank you for all of your Dr. suggestions -- I forgot to add I'm looking for a Dr. in Manhattan or Queens (I live in Queens) and that takes CIGNA.
MrsSupermarket - good luck with your appointment. Does your Dr. accept CIGNA?
My boss used Dr. David Kritchman in Manhattan anyone heard of him? Where can I find infor on him?
Thanks again

Re: ORAL SURGERY: Wisdom Teeth
I've had 2 wisdom teeth (upper) done 2 separate times in the same office in Plainview on Old Country road. The last time I had Dr. David Jurman. He was so great..walked me through the whole thing.

Re: ORAL SURGERY: Wisdom Teeth
I did all 4 at once. It wasn't the most pleasant of experiences but I survived . It took a couple of days for me to eat solid foot but within a week I was good as new! Make sure that you get knocked out for it though!

Re: ORAL SURGERY: Wisdom Teeth
I had them all pulled at one time. It wasn't too bad...a little uncomfortable after the novicaine wore off...but then the pain killers kicked in. After a day or so I was fine...although maybe I milked it a little longer to get my DH to cater to me for a little bit longer. Evil, I know...

Re: ORAL SURGERY: Wisdom Teeth
I got all four done at the same time, it was fine. The Dr. shot me up with novacaine, I felt some pressure and that was about it. They were all out in less than 10 minutes. I did have some pain, but the prescription ibruprofen took care of it for the most part (they gave me vicodin but i didn't like the way it made me feel). I had it done on a friday, went to the bronx zoo the next day. I was totally fine within a week.
Just get it over with, and get all four out. My oral surgeon was in huntington vilage, he was great!

The last time I went I woke up a little loopy but pain wise, nothing a little vicodin can't fix You'll be ok in a few days...def have it done

Re: ORAL SURGERY: Wisdom Teeth
OK wish me luck.
I made an consulation appointment for Monday with Dr. Steven Rosenberg, DDS in Manhattan. He's affiliated with Beth Israel but not doesn't take CIGNA.
When I was making the appointment she said we can schedule you today and extract today -- I was wooo, I didn't think they do that. So she said how's Monday with consulation and extraction - I said OK. Then she asked how I would like it done, novocaine, gas, anesthesia - I wasn't sure, so she said we'll just go ahead with a consulation.

I did it with just novacaine- but that's me. I really have an aversion to drugs and get very nervous about being put under Just so you know it was fine with just novacaine- you don't feel a thing. But if you are going to be nervous or freaking out- I'd suggest being put under.

Re: ORAL SURGERY: Wisdom Teeth
I had all 4 removed at once. I wasn't put under, just had some shots to numb the pain, so I was awake the entire time.
Recovery wasn't so bad. took the antibiotics, rested and was back to work on monday.
I think I ate soft foods for a while.

I did it with just novacaine too. When I was little I had surgery and had a really bad reaction to the anesthesia. Also , some insurances won't cover it - so if you think you might go that route, I'd call your ins. co first to verify~
