Painting the Inside of Your Home and Pregnancy
Is there anything I need to know? Precautions? Aeration? Special Paint? etc. I will need to paint over 1500sq ft of wall space in a few months after the dormer is built, but heard that pregnant women shouldn't participate?????

My OB said no unless it is the no voc paints. Benjamin moore sells a zero voc paint called Natura.

Re: Painting the Inside of Your Home and Pregnancy
My dr. gave me the ok and I painted my dining room and DS's nursery when I was pregnant with him and he is fine. Just make sure it is well ventilated.

My doctor told me it was fine as long as we opened the windows to ventilate the room well.

Re: Painting the Inside of Your Home and Pregnancy
When DH painted DS's room with my first pregnancy, he did so when I wasn't home and made sure the house was well ventilated. This was based on the advice of my doctor.

Re: Painting the Inside of Your Home and Pregnancy
DH used BM's Aura Paint and made sure the windows were open. I stayed clear of the room as much as I could though, I feel like since I've been pregnant I have a smell hyper-sensitivity.
I'm bad though, I didn't clear with my doctor about painting, but I wasn't actually doing it.

Re: Painting the Inside of Your Home and Pregnancy
DH & his brother just painted the entire downstairs of our home last weekend. To be on the safe side, I stayed out of the house & only came home when they were done. They made sure they ventilated the house while painting so when I got home, I could not smell a thing.

Re: Painting the Inside of Your Home and Pregnancy
"Regular" paint off-gasses for up to a year. BM's Aura paint is "very low VOC", even though they can claim "zero VOC". The government allows "zero VOC" paints to have VOCs in the colorants.
The "very low" VOC paints are still good, though.
I used http://www.mythicpaint.com/ It's one of the few paints that is 100% zero VOCs. It's $$, though.
IMO, doctors are good at medicine. They aren't paint experts. I personally wouldn't be OK with using toxic paint and just keeping the windows open while I was painting. Especially for the nursery.

Re: Painting the Inside of Your Home and Pregnancy
I painted DS's room (was doing stripes and didn't trust DH to do it properly ) and had no problem. We did use BM Aura paint, though more for the coverage and quick dry than for all the VOC issues.
Go by your comfort level. If you don't want to paint, this is a great excuse to get out of it But if you do and are comfortable doing so, keep the windows open and take breaks when you get tired.

We had our entire interior painted when I was pregnant, and DD is fine. Just make sure the house is well ventilated.

Mine too. We're closing on our house next week and I am going to help paint the entire thing. Don't know how much help I will be at 33 weeks, but I want to try!
