the thing that interests me is that these people were not part of any organized religion. they weren't Jehovahs Witnesses or any other religion where the paramenters are expressly laid out.
they moved to a smaller town...took the daughter out of school for home schoolling.....there is something a bit more "off" to this than being fervently religious or a part of a recognized organized religion.
Why does it matter? Do you have to be part of an organized religion to have strong personal religious beliefs?
I said it interests me. I did not give my opinion on it one way or the other, so why are you questioning me?
I DON'T think you have to be anything to have strong religious beliefs.
I DO think their dramatic lifestyle change IS suspect under the circumstances though, if you must know.

It's different in the sense that it's a different country. There are different laws people have to abide by.
In the middle east women have to cover their faces, here we don't. We don't tell them what to do there, but they don't tell us what to do here.
In this country there are laws outlining neglect. If there's enough evidence against these parents, I would expect the authorities to build and set forth a case against these parents.
I equate it to any neglect case.
SO you are saying if you lived in a different country and the same thing happened, you wouldn't judge the situation because the laws were different?

I didn't say anything about judging their faith.

For me, it's not a matter of judging their faith. It's judging their parenting skills which IMO was deserved in this situation.
I suspect it happens often... Teachers report situations where they feel there is either abuse or neglect.
How is this different?
YOu know I didn't think of it like that. If I, as a teacher, didn't report neglect I saw because I didn't want to judge, based on faith, or whatever reason, I could be held accountable for any harm that comes to a child. As a mandated reporter if I don't report neglect or abuse I am contribuitng to the situation. So maybe it IS for us to judge!!! Or at least for CPS to judge! (not that they would do anything anyway. Don't get me started on CPS and the things they "miss")

I'm not attacking you. I just don't see how being part of an organized religion makes any difference.
I don't think these parents made the right decision.

If I were born here and moved to another country, I would most certainly judge them the same exact way I am now.

I don't feel attacked.
and I don't know if it makes a difference. hence the interest.
I'd be interested to know a lot about their background...if they have always been so deeply faithful etc.

I find it somewhat suspect. Again, call me cynical, but I think these people are "hiding" behind the religion shield so that they can avoid prosecution.
Now of course I could be WAY off base here, but these are just my thoughts...

You could be off, or not...
In a situation like this, unfortunately when someone's beliefs are not parallel to societal norms, a psychiatric evaluation is conducted and then conclusions are drawn to determine whether or not they are "hiding" behind anything. we shall soon see.
I think we are very quick to judge based on little facts. Let's see how it plays out.

ANNND also.. Maybe those teachers and school personal AKA "mandated reporters of child abuse and neglect" were onto something and getting suspicisous so that is why is they moved and took the kids out of school. I mean how many times can you send you kid sick to school or even keep them home and never have a doctors note??? She hasn't been to the doctor since she was 3??? School's need physicals!!! Maybe they were asking too many questions in the schools??? Seriously it is a little..actually a lot... weird!!

I hope they do have some sort of investigation.
Religion aside, this couple's daughter died directly b/c of their actions. I think they should be held accountable.

The girl's father, Dale Neumann, a former police officer, said he started CPR "as soon as the breath of life left" his daughter's body.
Seriously if they believe it was truly in god's hands then why did they do CPR after she died??? W T F!!!! If they were willing to do CPR then why weren't they willing to get her medical attention.
These parents should be locked up!!

exactly. the child died because of the parent's actions...or lack of in this case. they can say whatever they want about beliefs an such---but to me the poor child in this case DID NOT HAVE A CHOICE --- her parents made it for her, and because of that she is dead. they should be held responsible for that.

But religion is a factor in this case or so it seems at this point...courts do not like to set precedence when it comes to questioning religious beliefs.

This is exactly why I think they're playing the religious card. It's a good way to avoid a neglect case.

Obviously, we don't really know anything by reading a short article, but it seems that they really believed prayer would help her get better, that she wasn't that sick, so when she did die, they were in shock that it happened and tried to save her. Again, I don't know what happened but this is my conclusion based on the limited information in the story.
