Faith and Poiltics should remain separate. This is a very controversial issue for most, but there are many religions that oppose certain medical practices. Who are we to jugde based on the outcome?
I think we absolutely have a right to judge when there are children involved. If an adult chooses prayer over medical intervention, that's his or her choice. I think children need to be protected when their health or lives are in danger.

The girl's father, Dale Neumann, a former police officer, said he started CPR "as soon as the breath of life left" his daughter's body.
Seriously if they believe it was truly in god's hands then why did they do CPR after she died??? W T F!!!! If they were willing to do CPR then why weren't they willing to get her medical attention. :
great point.
there should have been acceptance at that point, as it was God's will to take her.
Obviously, we don't really know anything by reading a short article, but it seems that they really believed prayer would help her get better, that she wasn't that sick, so when she did die, they were in shock that it happened and tried to save her. Again, I don't know what happened but this is my conclusion based on the limited information in the story.
Yeah but they called thier famiily to say that she was in a coma... umm does 911 not work in thier area???? The point is when it got really bad they still just prayed! I am sorry this makes me so angry!
exactly - the mom said in the article that they noticed her getting sicker the two days before she died... they KNEW that prayer alone wasn't working!!

Yes we are in a position to judge. Her parents let her die because of a chronic condition. I don't care what religion you are you need to provide your children with medical care. What you wrote is absolutely ludicrous.

IMO, the right of religious freedom has its limits.... similar to freedom of speech
you can't yell 'fire' in a crowded theatre and endanger everyone with the subsequent chaos that ensues....
you shouldn't be allowed to refuse medical attention for a minor and then hide behind religious freedom.
I always understood the law to be that one individuals rights end when they could potentially harm another individual.....

You know I was just talking to my mom about this. She is a nurse with her masters and going for doctorate. So she has taken plenty of ethics course... Guess what.. The rules that would protect someone from not getting medical help becasue of religion only apply to CERTAIN ORGANIZED religions. This family was not part of an organized religion.. so they are not protected under the law and it is considered abuse and neglect. Most likely they will be charged and serve time.

Re: Parents Pick Prayer over Doctor's Care, Girl Dies...
As a type 1 diabetic who was diagnosed when I was 10 years old, this story is very personal to me. this story makes me want to vomit. If my parents were nuts like this, I never would have had the great life like this. How could they have thought she was getting better?! You get worse as it goes untreated. I was 10 and lost 15 pounds in 2 months - alot for an already slight girl. I was drinking about 50 gallons of water a day and still thirsty. I peed a million times a day and was so tired that I used to pee in my bed. I was exhausted and when they finally correctly diagnosed me, I was practically in a coma. That was 3 months of going through this, so they had to see signs early on. I feel so bad for this girl because a simple medicine called insulin would have saved her life and she could have had a wonderful fulfilling life.
