Passport questions and name change...
So I am finally going to change my last name on my passport but have a few questions.
The website says it will cost me $75 to do this...plus they need a new photo of me, my old passport and my marriage certificate. They are going to send me my marriage certificate back right???
Also my passport officially expires Jan 2011 but I am wondering if when I change my name if they will give me a new expiration date? Or do I have to go through the renewal process in Jan of next year...ugh.

Yes, they will mail all the paperwork back. I did my name change with my marriage license and a new photo and I requested my old passport back and they sent it all back to me with my old passport, plus the new one.

Yes they send everything back and yes they extend your expiration date.

why not just keep your maiden name passport until it expires? it'll save you money and a lot of aggravation. you can just book your ticket under your maiden name....as long as it matches the passport it's fine. when the current passport expires, you can do a renewal with your new name.

This is what I'm doing. All out of the country trips I've been on, I just book in my maiden name.

I couldnt book in my maiden name bc I used a free ticket and had to be in my new name (which my Skymiles acct was in). Annoying but no way around it! So I am getting the new passport, ugh.
