Paver patio install... Day 4 (DONE!)

Dblplay and JldDolphin recommended their patio guy to me and he came in lowest out of everyone we quoted with. We chose to go with Cambridge Kings Court pavers in Onyx (gray) 6x6 and 6x9 sizes and Salmon/Onyx (orange/gray) 12x12's. We wanted a more random pattern so we went with the different sizes and colors.

Day 2... They excavated, removed excess dirt, put down the RCA, leveled, and did the outline of the shape of the patio. We wanted mostly curved lines because everything is so boxy around the house. The ferns that are on the side of the walkway will also be planted in the middle of each curve to better define them too.

We leave for Montauk tomorrow so we won't see more progress till we return Sunday night. Although they're calling for rain all day tomorrow, so I doubt they'll be coming.

Day 3... I was right, they didn't work in the rain Friday but they were here Saturday working on the stoop. We hadn't even seen the pavers before they started so I was a little nervous about the colors but we LOVE the way it looks.

Turns out, the bullnose pavers that go on the edges of the stoop are darker than the color we chose for the pavers and almost exactly matches the house. Chat Icon We are glad we chose to do the bullnose around each section instead of just down the front of the steps. I love the way it looks.

The salmon/onyx color was another risk that we are happy we took, it really adds some nice color to the mix and is not nearly as vibrant as it looks like in the catalog.

New pics below... We didn't touch the pavers. I wanted to sweep them or hose them down or something but I'm being really cautious. The stoop pics look dusty/dirty because they are. Chat Icon Tomorrow they should finish the stoop, start on the patio portion, and possibly the walkway.

OH and they cleared out and leveled a section of RCA that was leftover from a cesspool install on the side of the house. I had told him he could use it if he wanted to, but I don't see it anywhere - I don't know why he cleared it. But I'm thankful!! Chat Icon

Day 4... They're done! Ok well he was short like 10 pavers and he's coming back tomorrow to finish but it's in a little corner that you can't even notice. So I'm calling it done.

I found out he used my leftover RCA to fill in the holes in the cinder blocks that make the base of the stoop. No problem with me! One of the guys also took an old picket fence off of my hands that I was going to dump, but he can use it. We recycle around here! Chat Icon

I took pictures wet (after they had applied the last layer of sandlock between the pavers) and semi-dry. We are really really happy with the result and I can't wait to get my patio furniture put together and on that baby!!

Now that this is done, we realized that we need a heck of a lot of topsoil to level out the yard now. Chat Icon Ahhh on to the next project!

Thanks for looking. Chat Icon

Updated for Day 3. Chat Icon

Denise, I'm pretty happy with them so far! One of the things that put Fernando above the rest was that he demo'd our deck for no additional cost. He said the dumping was where the cost was, so we rented our own dumpster from another one of Jen's (JldDolphin's) great reccos - Paul Aponte landscaping in Islandia. It was $400. for a 15 yard dumpster.

However, we did have to wait over a month to get the appointment. He only has one crew, where larger outfits have more than one. We weren't that concerned. We were actually slated for next week, and he came a week early. We figured we could wait a few weeks to save hundreds of dollars. Chat Icon

It's looking good! I'm doing a lot of brickwork/patio work this summer, but I'm a masochist and doing it myself.. Chat Icon I've done it all before, so I know what I'm in for. It really adds a nice dimension to the property. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Things are looking GREAT! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Love the colors. Can't wait to see it done. Love the curves and the ferns are going to look great there. Nice!

Denise (BnBDreamin) - there are a couple of girls on this board that have used him. Let me find that thread, so you can see everyone's pics. Fernando and his works are a good people. Fernando only goes by word of mouth, no advertising at all. He does some pretty big jobs too.

Here is the thread on the patio's

Re: Paver patio install... Day 4 (DONE!)

So that's all she wrote!! All done, pics updated. He's coming back for about an hour tomorrow to put some finishing touches on the corner by the steps, you can't even see it.

We are very happy with everything. The way he did the random setting, spread out the orange pavers, all the edging.

Now we have a little more to do with leveling out the areas around the patio that used to have deck over them, adding topsoil and grass seed. Onward to the next project. Chat Icon

Forgot to say above that DH and I came to a mutual decision about the rain barrel we're getting. This pretty baby won DH's heart:

External Image

He didn't like that the other barrels looked like, well, barrels. Chat Icon So this was the compromise. It holds 65 gallons and will go in the right corner here:

External Image

I'll transplant that hosta and daffodil somewhere else, and use my leftover bricks to raise it up above the level of the ground (to let gravity increase the water pressure). Then I'm going to hook a soaker hose up to the lower spicket and run it through that fern/hosta/heuchera bed there since they're moisture lovers anyway. I can unhook it when I want to fill up my watering cans.

But in the meantime... I can enjoy my new patio. Chat Icon

Thanks again for looking and commenting!!
