Pet Allergies & Children
I'm curious to see what other people think about this topic. You find out your child is allergic to a pet (in this case, a cat). The cat dies. Would you get a new cat? The child in question is fairly allergic and needs to take medication to control the allergies.
Someone I know is doing this, and I have my thoughts about it, but I'm curious to see what others think.

Re: Pet Allergies & Children
Me personally would not get another cat. Allergies can lead to asthma and it isn't worth all of that to me. JMO...

I would not get another cat. I can't imaging forcing my child to take medication daily for something that is easily avoided.

Re: Pet Allergies & Children
Thanks for the feedback. I'm not a big pet person, because I have cat allergies myself, hence the request for other opinions.
Someone I know is doing this, and when she told me she and her daughter are going to pick out a kitten, I asked her if she thinks this is a good idea (given the allergies). The little girl really liked their previous cat, but even so, I can't see doing this. Maybe a different pet if there is another kind she isn't allergic to. I can understand why they kept the cat they had originally since the cat was old, and the cat was already part of the family.
