I am sorry, but I don't see anything wrong with the dogs being in kennels or cages. They are animals, and they live on a farm....As long as those dogs are fed and given water, not abused and taken care of, I don't see anything wrong with it.

You honestly think it's ok for people to allow 40 dogs to live outside. in a shed. Would you put your dog in the shed?

Then why would you want one if you don't have a farm? If a farm is good enough for a pet IYO, do you want a house pet or a farm pet?

I am trying to refrain from saying what is really going thru my mind.

This explains why a pet store is ok to this poster. She is ok with dogs popping out puppies in dirty crammed sheds....

Re: Pet store in Sunrise Mall

From the Humane society website

Puppy mills are breeding facilities that produce purebred puppies in large numbers. Puppy mills have long concerned The HSUS.

Often the puppies are sold directly to the public via the Internet, newspaper ads, or at the mill itself. In other cases they are sold to brokers and pet shops across the country.

The myriad documented problems of puppy mills include: overbreeding, inbreeding, minimal veterinary care, poor quality of food and shelter, lack of human socialization, overcrowded cages and the killing of unwanted animals.

For the unwitting consumer, this situation frequently means buying a puppy facing an array of immediate veterinary problems or harboring genetic diseases that surface years later.

Learn more about how to avoid buying a puppy mill dog, and take the pledge to stop puppy mills today.

Re: Pet store in Sunrise Mall

>>>As consumers, we have the power to stop the cruel cycle of animal abuse perpetuated by puppy mills.

When we buy a pet or even shop at a store that sells puppies, we contribute to a heartless underground industry that forces dogs to spend their entire lives in cages constantly breeding to support consumer demand for puppies.

Re: Pet store in Sunrise Mall

This is great.

READ the first sentince. WHAT IS A PUPPY MILL!

place where several breeds of dogs are raised and the breeder always has puppies for sale;

A dirty, trashy place where one or several breeds of dogs are kept in deplorable conditions and puppies are always available;

A place where a single breed of dog is raised in acceptable conditions and puppies are always available;

A place where lots of dogs are raised, where breeding is done solely for financial gain rather than protection of breed integrity, and where puppies are sold to brokers or to pet stores;

All of the above.

I agree attacking is not helping. Making them feel "stupid" will only make it worse and put them on the defensive.Chat Icon

Ok, I am going to say my peace and then I am done.....I am by NO means agreeing or defending puppy mills, they are horrible and disgusting, and should all be shut down!! Where I disagree is the fact that your saying ALL dogs that go to pet stores are from a mill, I have researched this and have found this not to be true. My brother in laws aunt owns a pet store and she is a total animal lover and says she would NEVEr get a dog from a mill. She knows her breeders and the pets environments. I do not think its ok for 4 dogs to be put in a small cage together, but I do think its ok for a dog to live outside on a farm with a pen to run in and a shed to sleep in. As for my dog NO of course it would not live outside, it would sleep in my bed with me just like my cat does. I have spoken to my vet as well about this, she said that they don't reccomend getting dogs from a pet store, but that their are some good breeders that do sell to pet stores.

So why not buy from the breeder your aunt gets her dogs from?

Your BIL's aunt may have good intentions but no breeder that is reputable would sell to a pet store for several reasons. She may not be aware of what she is purchasing but she is adding to the continued problem. That isn't to say she is a bad person of anything like that...she just isn't informed.

Reputable breeders don't sell to the public, they choose who to sell to.

You believe what you want, despite the proof.

2+2=4

If someone ships their dogs, sells them to pet stores, doesn't meet prospective owners, etc, it is NOT a reputable breeder. The proof is in the pudding.

I do agree and apologize, the intent isn't to attack your friend. But it is extremely hard not to respond to her statement about dog on farms, in sheds, having puppies aka "puppy mills" any other way at this point, esp when she has been provided with multiple sources of proof about mills.

So we have done all we can. She too joins the club of those who believe what they wish to believe. We did our best. We tried.

Re: Pet store in Sunrise Mall

A lot of you people are crazy. after reading these posts going back and forth, i want to say; first. Do any of you have any other proof than the research you do? you DO NOT know for a fact that every pet store existing gets their puppies from a puppy mill..unless you see with your own eyes where it came from you r getting that info from the research you are doing...That is just what moms3 is doing EDUCATING herself and doing research before purchasing a puppy. She took your advise and researched the breeder to find that that puppy came from a reputable breeder...as for the ? why doesnt she get a puppy from her Bro inlaw's aunt? i dont even know moms3 but i think she stated numerous times "it is THIS puppy that she wants and fell in love with!! so that was a no brainer answer to that ?...also i have a dog who of course doesnt sleep outside but if i were a breeder and had maybe 30 dogs at a time...yes! i would build something for the ANIMALS outside, but would make sure thay are well taken care of fed warm etc. any way u look at it they are ANiMALS...WE make them house pets..and just a question...y cant moms3 be the one to take that puppy home to love it..if she doesnt someone else will!!btw i got my puppy from a breeder that was one of the best from research and word of mouth...she had ghiardia...my sister got a dog from the pet company in roosevelt field mall and her maltese has had no problems whatso ever..peace out have a good night!!

Re: Pet store in Sunrise Mall

OK, so I called my vet back to tell her some of your responses and she told me that MOST reputable Breeders do NOT sell to pet stores, but that there is an inbetween. There are breeders who breed their dogs and sell them to pet stores to sell them quick to make more money, but they take care of their dogs, and do not live in the conditions that the internet shows as puppy mills. But I'm sure you guys wont believe this either, maybe my vet is really a puppy mill owner! As for my children with the dog, yes I have done research there too, but thanks.....
