OK, so I called my vet back to tell her some of your responses and she told me that MOST reputable Breeders do NOT sell to pet stores, but that there is an inbetween. There are breeders who breed their dogs and sell them to pet stores to sell them quick to make more money, but they take care of their dogs, and do not live in the conditions that the internet shows as puppy mills. But I'm sure you guys wont believe this either, maybe my vet is really a puppy mill owner! As for my children with the dog, yes I have done research there too, but thanks.....
if you have done your research, make your decision and leave it at that

A lot of you people are crazy. after reading these posts going back and forth, i want to say; first. Do any of you have any other proof than the research you do? you DO NOT know for a fact that every pet store existing gets their puppies from a puppy mill..unless you see with your own eyes where it came from you r getting that info from the research you are doing...That is just what moms3 is doing EDUCATING herself and doing research before purchasing a puppy. She took your advise and researched the breeder to find that that puppy came from a reputable breeder...as for the ? why doesnt she get a puppy from her Bro inlaw's aunt? i dont even know moms3 but i think she stated numerous times "it is THIS puppy that she wants and fell in love with!! so that was a no brainer answer to that ?...also i have a dog who of course doesnt sleep outside but if i were a breeder and had maybe 30 dogs at a time...yes! i would build something for the ANIMALS outside, but would make sure thay are well taken care of fed warm etc. any way u look at it they are ANiMALS...WE make them house pets..and just a question...y cant moms3 be the one to take that puppy home to love it..if she doesnt someone else will!!btw i got my puppy from a breeder that was one of the best from research and word of mouth...she had ghiardia...my sister got a dog from the pet company in roosevelt field mall and her maltese has had no problems whatso ever..peace out have a good night!!

well I don't know who this apr person is, but thank you! You guys are totally right, I have done my research and I have learned alot of things I didn't know... I also know that young children and chihuahuas are sometimes not a good match, I have searched the internet, talked to the vet, spoken to outsiders from my childrens school......I am now well informed to make my OWN decision THANK YOU

I'm currently researching breeders and breeds b/c my husband and I are looking to adopt a puppy and I can tell you I've learned no REPUTABLE breeder would sell their pups to a pet store. EVER.
REPUTABLE dog breeders consider their pups as part of the family and would only adopt out their pup to a family THEY approve of.
A REPUTABLE breeder will ask YOU questions. Will want to see YOU interact with the dog and will either PERSONALLY drive the pup to you or will make arrangements for you to go and pick up the pup. More times than not they will NOT ship a pup. ESPECIALLY this time of the year. IT'S COLD and that could make a dog SICK.
Additionally, some breeders (though MOST that I've come across in MY research to find the right pup for my husband and I) will ask you to complete an questionaire before even being CONSIDERED to adopt one of their pups. Again, these people consider these puppies part of their FAMILY, they wouldn't just give a dog away to anyone, especially NOT to a pet store where they CANNOT see who's getting their puppy.
Why is it so hard for you to accept that the dog you "fell in love with" is a puppy mill dog?? I get that you have NO intention of NOT getting this dog, but at least acknowlege that this pup is from a puppy mill.
Is that too much to ask for, or would it make you think twice about adopting him/her?
You seem to contradict yourself. One minute you're saying you in no way support puppy mills, yet you're buying one.

Thanks for coming out. Hard to stay out of it when you read such atrocities. I tried my hardest for the first few pages of the thread, and then I could not control myself any longer.

It honestly makes me sick. I tried to stay out of this, but after reading four pages I just couldn't.
It's just a shame. There could be a hundred pinned topics at the top of this board educating people about puppy mills and sadly, it doesn't seem to make a difference.

What i find amazing is that you really believe you KNOW everything for a fact
You yourself said "what i've learned" as it sounds like moms3 is only stating what she has learned
Why is what you learned positivley right and what she learned so wrong...
She said her brother in law's aunt owned a puppy store!! Dont you think she researched into that pretty far before saying What that persons store did?
Which makes all her points simply what SHE has learned!!

exactly, but to me it is frustrating when someone ASKS for information and then since they do not the info they are given, decide to do what they want regardless of the consequences...makes me sad, that's all
