Photoshop Card Designers - A few questions

I'm thinking about designing my own birth announcement/holiday card this year. I've only used photoshop for web design, so I'm not sure of all the rules for print.

Can you tell me who you use to print your cards, the dimensions of your layout, and the resolution you use? Or if you are willing, could you send me a file of a completed card that printed well that I can play with/reverse engineer to make my own?

Just thought I'd give this question one more try.

Re: Photoshop Card Designers - A few questions

when you start out, you can make it 4 x 6 or 5 x 7, or whatever size you want.

I've printed mine out via walmart.com, cvs.com, snapfish, and I'm going to use winkflash this time around because I got a good e-mail promo.

I'd be happy to send you my files.

When I create a new document, I set the size for 4x6 or 5x7, whatever size I'm ordering, use RGB, set the pixels to about 500 and it must be saved as a jpeg and not a pdf file.

If you go to vista print - you can downoad PS ready templates that are sized for their particular cards, and already have the right printing color profiles in them.

Then just rework the sizing for whoever you use to print.

I use Vista print alot, but they can get pricey. Winkflash is a good alternative but beware - they cut off sometimes. Sometimes I have resize 2 dozen time before it works right.

I have a 4x6 winkflash post card file that I did for someone else - I can send you that file if you like.
