placenta encapsulation?
has anyone done this? The benefits of it sound amazing, but it's expensive and slightly weird lol... curious to see if anyone has experience doing this

placenta encapsulation?
I did it with my last birth, and it was worth every penny. I had an awful recovery with my first (mostly emotional) and I read a great deal on this subject and gave it a shot. At first it sounded gross to me but I wanted to try anything.
My mood was great, milk supply great, postpartum bleeding was less. I was so happy I decided to do it!!!!
If you're ok with another option, you can have your placenta frozen in chunks to blend into smoothies. This is significantly cheaper--though you need a stronger stomach!

placenta encapsulation?
where did you go to get them put into pills? I don't think I could do the smoothies lol.. If you could give me all of the info that would be great. Curious about cost (if you don't mind sharing), how many pills you get, and how it all works with the hospital (do they just give it to you, do you need to freeze it, etc.)
thanks!

I'm curious too. I had bad pp depression with my first and I tried just hiding it. I'm so scared to go through it again that I'll try anything.

There are a few people on LI who do encapsulation. I have friends that used Mary Betsellie. I think it may run about $250-$300.

This is who most people I know used. You can look her up on FB or google Sacred Space Birth Services.
$275 you get about 100 pills, depending on size of your placenta.
Anyone who previously had PPD, I would urge you to try it!

placenta encapsulation?
One more question:)
How exactly does the process work? I will be having a scheduled c section- do I have to let the hospital know prior? Are there some hospitals that won't let you store your placenta? I'll be delivering at North Shore Manhasset... Thanks!

Call the hospital prior and ask--then remind L&D when you're there that you want it. Bring a small cooler of ice to store it in (they'll put it in a plastic bag) and Mary (if you use her) will come pick it up or you can drop it off to her.

Re: placenta encapsulation?
So not to bring Reality TV into this but Kim from Don't Be a Tardy (Atlanta Housewives) drank hers in a smoothie after birth and I honestly thought the benefits out weighed the strangeness of it! I'm totally interested.

I actually did and didn't see a step-by-step process on her mobile site.... I'm sure it's a condensed version so i figured i would ask.

placenta encapsulation?
I took 1-2 a day...2 in the beginning and then 1 after about a month.
I'm sure people will comment that it's gross or whatever, but as a mom who had a tough time emotionally, I really felt it made a HUGE difference. I'm enjoying motherhood and the newborn phase so much more this time around.

For those who have done it, do the pills have a taste? How long does it take to get them back?

Did you notice any of the other benefits such as increased milk supply, less bleeding, etc. I haven't experienced any PPD with my last two births, but am interested in the other benefits it talks about.

This is what I'm wondering... Do you burp up any tastes, like sometimes happens with fish oil pills?

placenta encapsulation?
very cool...I was just considering this for the first time today! I contacted a few people on LI to see what the process and cost would be. it does seem to be about $300. oy..,now if I'm also doing the blood cord storage that doesn't mean they are taking any of the placenta right?

Cord blood has nothing to do with the placenta. The placenta comes out a little later.
