Plastic Bags etc,. And the environment
That studies indicated that 100,000 marine animals and 2 million birds die every year from ingesting or being caught up in plastic debris. That less then 2% of all plastic bags ever get recycled. And regular polyethylene-based plastic bags can take over 100 years to degrade and or not compostable...
Thanks for those using one of these

Re: Plastic Bags etc,. And the environment
I can see the problem with trashing them after you get your groceries home or littering.
BUT I use mine as trash bags. I use them for DS' dirty diapers, bathroom trash, etc...

You're re-using them, which helps the environment as well.
We bought the canvas bags and use them most of the time for our groceries. (You save $0.05 per bag on your total purchase at Stop & Shop if you use the canvas bags!!!!)
But when we do wind up getting the plastic bags, we always re-use them.

Re: Plastic Bags etc,. And the environment
We have six canvas or paper bags to use for grocery shopping every week and get a 6 cent credit for each bag. I also recycle all plastic bags that I get saddled with occasionally.

Re: Plastic Bags etc,. And the environment
We have a food co-op down the street that recycles plastic bags, batteries etc. We primarily use cloth, but if I run to the store on my way home, well, they add up.

Re: Plastic Bags etc,. And the environment
I have some re-usable canvas bags, which I use, but if I'm running low on plastic bags (which I use for small trash cans and kitty litter), I leave the canvas at home and re-stock on the plastic ones. I feel like I'm at least recycling and not tossing them in the trash.

I cant stand those plastic bags. They are such a waste. The cashier ends up using so many bags by putting one or two items in each bag- which annoys me to no end!!!!

Not only do they put one or two items in each bag, they usually double bag as well.
I also don't understand why paper bags have become so difficult to find at the supermarket. Reusable canvas bags are the best, but paper bags are a better option than plastic.

Re: Plastic Bags etc,. And the environment
I love my canvas bags. They are a huge help because I have DS in my arms and the canvas bags (if light) I can wear up on my shoulders. I reuse the plastic ones for DS' diaper pail, the litter box, and to line the bathroom garbage pails as well.

ITA - it is so much easier to manage the groceries into the house with the re-usable bags. They hold so much more too.

I love my reusable bags too, although today when I went foodshopping (stop N shop medford) I was using them (I have about 10 of them) and the cashier started using plastic
I said "excuse me, can you please use these?".. so she took a green bag but still handed me the plastic bag which she had already packed.

that reminds me of the day I bought my first one- the cashier went to put in a PLASTIC bag
and then gave me a dirty look when I asked to have the food packed in the reusable bag
duh- why did you think I bought it!

I know!!! And it annoys me to no end. Trust me, I then line my garbage pails with them, so they get re-used.
Fresh Direct brings everything in boxes which are easily recyclable. That I love.
Other than that, I have about 10 canvas/hemp bags and they are the best when I DO go shopping.

Try these for the littler box.
