Does anyone know if there are playgroups for newborns? I'd love to meet some other new mothers in my area and talk to other moms going through the same things i am right now - its more for my sanity than DS
im in southwest nassau feel free to fm me if you know of anything, or can suggest a place i could look
thanks!

Re: playgroups for newborns and their moms?
My DD is 2 months old and I just got the green light from her pediatrician to bring her to public places, so I'd like to know this too!
Otherme - I'm South Nassau too if you want to try to get together. We can start a thread and try to get other LIF moms from the area. I think there was a post about this for Moms near Coram last week and there were a bunch of responses.

My DS will be 11 weeks on Thursday and I am in South Nassau too. I live in Seaford. I have to go back to work on the 28th but am free before that.

I belong to the moms club. It's an international organization for sahm and p/t working moms. Ck out the site and see if there's a chapter near you. http://www.momsclub.org/
It's been really great for me and my dd.

check meetup.com
This!
Also, check your library. When my DS was a few months old, they had a "New Mom's" group once a week. After the group ended a few us still kept getting together, rotating houses.
4 years later and we still try to plan playdates whenever possible. (once every few months).

You could always start your own playgroup with mommies on this site That's how I met & became friends with a bunch of wonderful women & mothers! And our kids are now 1.5-2yrs old and best friends

Re: playgroups for newborns and their moms?
I was also going to suggest stroller strides. I have seen them in both the Broadway Mall in Hicksville and The Source Mall. It looks like a great way to meet other moms and chat while you burn some calories as well. I may look into it myself when the new baby is born!
Also check out your local library. Most of them have free classes, organized by age groups. You can even check the library's online websites. I take the little girl I babysit for to a library class for 2 years now and it is a lot of fun.
Churches often have playgroups also but I think that for the most part they start at around age 2 or so!

Re: playgroups for newborns and their moms?
These are some fantastic suggestions ladies, thank you!!
I realize that DS is only just 6 weeks old, so i'm not sure if he's 'allowed' to hang out with other kids yet until he gets his shots. Does anyone know the rules for that? i've brought him out with me to stores, but not come in direct contact with any other kids yet.
i'll definitely check out the local library and the sites mentioned here - and if i find local groups i'll post them here as well.
im not sure i have the motivation right now to start our own group (one of the reasons i want to find a group is for my own sanity..i'm having hard time dealing with all of this), but that doesn't mean i don't want to be a part of one. It would give me an excuse to get out of the house, and to be able to talk to other mothers who have young babies and at least realize that we're all going through the same thing. This site has been great, but i'm definitely craving some face to face time with other moms to ensure i'm doing the right things.

Re: playgroups for newborns and their moms?
My DS is 5 months old and I live in nassau. I work full time but would definitely be interested in a playgroup if it's on a weekend.
Otherme, I had a really, really difficult time in the beginning when my son was born. I had actually posted on here about what a hard time I was having and got so much great support and advice from the ladies on this board. Trying to get some interaction with other mothers is probably one of the best things you can do. All I can say is hang in there. You're doing a great job (and this job is the most difficult job in the world!) and take one day at a time.

I'm in Massapequa, so we definitely are all pretty close. Let's set it up.
We could do a walk or meet up at a park if this weather stays nice...Cedar Creek or Eisenhower.
I'm trying to think of indoor activities but I'm drawing a blank.

maybe a walk around the mall when it gets too cold to walk outside. or a get together at someone's house.

Next week is going to be in the 60's. A walk in the park sounds good. If we go on a cold day we could do a walk inn the mall.
