Re: please explain what the dangers/risk of getting pregnant at 35 really are?
I think there re a lot of people of advanced maternal age with great outcomes. It is, however, a fact that there are increased risks. everyone has to decide if they re okay with those risks.
There are many studies on the topic. Here is one: http://prepforbirth.com/news/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/ama-morb-and-mort.pdf
Best of luck!
P.s. my grandma had my uncle at 42 and hat was 50 years ago. He's kind of a jerk but I don't think advanced maternal age was a factor lol!

I also had both of mine over 35 and was not considered high risk. Had no problems. (Did have trouble conceiving DD#2, but so do many ladies <35). My DD does have a chromosomal disorder, but I've been told my OBs, geneticists, neurologists, etc that my age had NOTHING to do with it. In fact, many moms I've met who have other kids with it are much younger.
I say if you want to do it, do it!

Re: please explain what the dangers/risk of getting pregnant at 35 really are?
It seems to be a trend where I am to have quite late babies, I had mine at 33 and 37, but my friend just had her third at 45 and another at 42, no problems and they both had lovely homebirths.
However, saying that...one of my girlfriends is a midwife in our community and she told me that amongst the local midwives the 45 year old was referred to as Ancient Annie. Thats pretty bad!

There is a dramatic decrease in a woman's fertility that EXPONENTIALLY increases starting at age 35. It is in all medical textbooks. While women above 35 can go on to have healthy pregnancies, it is a known phenomena that fertility decreases. This is the chart most professionals are referring to:
http://www.babycenter.com/0_chart-the-effect-of-age-on-fertility_6155.bc
Nice graph.
Here's another site:
http://www.socalfertility.com/age-and-fertility.html
The miscarriage rate at 35 is 25% and at 40 is 33%
Yes, there are always the story of someone with amazing fertility and a perfect baby at a late age... but that person may not be you.
Here's a site that reminds us that celebrities having twins in their late 30s/early 40s is not without help:

Re: please explain what the dangers/risk of getting pregnant at 35 really are?
You are not considered high risk but as others said advanced maternal age. AMA is associated with decreased fertility (though that may not end up being an issue for you) but more importantly increased risks of chromosomal abnormalities.
Trisomies for a women in their 20s is around 2%–3% - but it increases to about 35% in a women in their 40s. To answer the question about the age of your DH, almost all of these abnormalities are due to errors occurring during meiosis (division of cells) in the eggs and NOT the sperm.
In the end, these are all statistics and you would really have to make the decision for what's best for your family. That would include answering questions like what you would do if there was an abnormality. Are you someone who would continue with the pregnancy no matter what etc. You may be lucky and get pregnant immediately and have a totally healthy baby. You really won't know unless you try! Yes, you will have an increased risk of things going wrong...but that doesn't necessarily mean it will!
Good luck to you

Re: please explain what the dangers/risk of getting pregnant at 35 really are?
if you have no problem conceiving and no pre-existing conditions, i dont think you would be high risk. 35 is the very beginning of advanced maternal age.. but it doesn't guarantee any complications. i would guess your NT results might be a little worse cause of age but other than that and higher risk for chromosomal abnormalities due to higher FSH/older eggs, i dont think there is any specific reason you would be at higher risk for anything.
