Please give me remedies for runners knee
This is SO frustrating! Just as I started to get into outdoor running I got bad runners knee...like to the point where walking is painful and difficult. I pushed myself yesterday and tried to run through the pain, but it just made it worse. I'm fairly new to running so I'm sure that's part of the problem. On top of it, I'm an over-pronator and I didn't realize it until a few days ago...so I'm wearing the wrong shoes.
First question: What can I do to relieve the pain of runner's knee?
Second: Can I continue to run/jog on it or should I take a few days off?
And Third: Can anyone recommend good running shoes for over-pronators?

You should definitely not run through the pain, that could make things worse. I have not had knee issues myself, but I would rest it and if the pain persists I would go to a Dr.
Also you should go to a running store and get fitted for shoes - I pronate, but I had to try on a large variety of shoes until I found the best stability shoes for me. There are tons out there but you should really try them on for yourself.

Thanks. I'm thinking of stopping in at the Road Runner by me to have them fit me for shoes. Hopefully that will help a bit.

Re: Please give me remedies for runners knee
I agree with JME78's advice... rest your knee. You can hurt it worse if you keep going while you're injured. I continued to run through ankle pain a few years ago, and woke up one morning unable to even walk on it. Turns out I gave myself tendonitis and then couldn't run for well over a month.
For my ankle, the doc advised ice and ibuprofin, but I'm not sure if runner's knee should be treated differently.
Hope your knee feels better soon!

Re: Please give me remedies for runners knee
I have runner's knee and I'm an overpronator.
As far as overpronation: I actually got custom orthotics. They are on the expensive side and my insurance didn't cover them, however they got rid of pain in my feet due to the overpronation. For a good shoe for overpronation, I would go to the Runner's Edge and ask them- they're great with helping to pick out shoes!
I was diagnosed with Runner's Knee in January and have been in the process of recovery since. DO NOT RUN IF IT HURTS!! I had to take alot of time off from running. I also did physical therapy for 2 1/2 months. I'm just getting back into running now.
Defintely STRETCH!! I did alot of stretching at PT and at home. It helps alot.
You'll need to strengthen the muscles around your knee- your quads and hamstrings especially. We took it slow in PT but eventually I started building up more muscle in my right knee (the one that was suffering).
Ice and aleve have also helped me. But I think above all, the number one thing- dont push it. I ended up making my runner's knee alot worse than it was.
