please tell me cio will be better
the first two days i was so excited, partly b/c i finally slept a full night's sleep...but last night and tonight have been so tough. i feel bad and don't know what to do. we're keeping consistent with it, but now it seems like he associates his room w/crying everytime i put him in his crib during the day whether for a nap or to play (i know, i'll stop the playing part asap) he starts crying.
help...reassure me that i'm not the only one who feels like a failure even though he's sleeping through the night.
i don't want to traumatize my son.

It will be fine - how long did he cry today?? For naps - Jack always cries - and then passes out. At nighttime he is better for the most part!

Re: please tell me cio will be better
I completely hear you. My DS got the hang of sleeping after two nights of CIO - it was amazing but, since then he is literally "afraid" of his crib and room. Any time we walk in there he thinks he is going to have to go to sleep and he starts whining like crazy But, its been less than a month since we started so i am hoping this goes away!
With bedtime - he goes right to sleep now - no real crying. However, he does wake up in the middle of the night. Naptimes - he usually plays and whines a bit before going to sleep.
Right now he is sick so all CIO is out the window and I am sure we will have to do this again when he is completely better

I also do certain things so that he knows it's bedtime or naptime. The lights are always off (obvious one) but I play the same CD for naps and bedtime - along with the sound machine. Once these go on he knows he's going in the crib and starts to get upset. Also - for bedtime he wears his sleepsack.
When we are just hanging out in his room playing - the lights are on - I have a fun childrens CD on and all is good!

Yes, I agree with this...when we go in the room and the lights stay on, shades up and we play he is no longer afraid...

Re: please tell me cio will be better
i guess i'll have to change the cd then and just play with him on the floor in his room - he was soooooo clingy today and i feel terrible. he is such a good boy and i don't want him to think that i don't love him and won't be there for him. this parenting thing is HARD
thanks for the reassurance and advice
