I prefer white lights only for decoration outside and small colored lights on the tree. My tree has all kinds of ornaments, so colored lights look best.

it always amazes the the things people call tacky but that is also z100 for you, i think they are tacky

i prefer colored lights, thats what i have inside and out

however i am not a fan of purple lights which i have been seeing alot of this year, and blue is fine as long as its not all blue, if i see that i think its for Hanakkuah (sp)

eta i like that everyone does something different outside, all white, colored, all red and green, all blue, whatever, it mixes things up and makes the neighborhood look beautiful

I prefer colored.

I really don't care for the white (maybe they are clear?) LED ones, they are like a blue-ish white and seem very harsh.

It's not that I consider colored lights tack but I prefer a more reserved look. White lights, roping & maroon bows is my style.

So while I prefer white only but am completely overruled at my house.
Each year, DH goes add with the kids & picks out something "special". I usually flinch when I drive up to my house. Instead of the song "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas" going through my mind, the lyrics have changed to "It's beginning to look a lot like Vegas."

i like white lights b/c i have so many colorful ornaments, so i like the way white lights look w/ all my ornaments.

I am not against colored lights at all though..

I prefer white on our tree.

I also prefer white, greens, deep red bows, candles in the windows and wreaths outside. But, my husband loves color. Our compromise is that this year we lit up our two trees in the fron yard with a pop of red.

The only issue I have right now is that I dislike our current white lights - we have the cool white and I prefer the warm white.

Oh and I only like the small bulbs, not those monster big ones.

I like to see colored lights on other people's trees (since I don't put up a tree) and white lights for the homes.

I like them both!! One year we had a white tree, one year a multi-colored, one year we just threw both on. I love them both. I really like when the outside lights are different than the tree too. Like if its a white tree I like colored lights outside and vice versa. I do not care for red only lights or green only and I really dislike the blue reindeer I have been seeing lately (no offense to anyone).

I love all white lights on the tree. This year I bought a couple of strings of red lights and they really add something!

So some color (but not completely colored) is my preference.

I always did white until I had DD now I feel like it should be more colorful. I like both.

I like to have the same colored lights on the entire tree. Be it clear, blue, red, green - doesn't matter. I just want them to all be the same color.

I've seen trees decorated both ways, and I think they are each pretty. But my personal preference is white lights on the tree and color lights for window decorations.

Front of the house is done with a spotlight on a wreath, bows, white lights. White lights on tree in the front window However, my DH and kids loved colored because its fun so we have a seperate tree in our den thats colored and flashing for them

I prefer white......but if its done nice and neat......and not a sloppy mess.......colored can look just as nice.

I notice houses that have the white, and the LED bluish lights and I can't understand how they think that looks good. IMO, if you are going to decorate, stick with one color. But the mixing of the two "whites" just has me and . And some mix in some colored as well.

And when people decorate an outside tree......instead of taking the time to do it neat, they just throw the lights around like one big sloppy mess. It looks just absolutely horrible!

This is not to offend anyone......its just how I feel.

my tree is mostly crystal with white, red and silver ornaments and the white lights better fit the overall look of my decor.

I prefer white, but growing up my sis and I made my parents use colored - they were much mroe fun. So till I have kids, I'll use white. Then when they have an opinion, I'll switch if they want. But I'll never use a single color (blue, green, pink, etc.) on my tree or outdoors. Only white and colored if thats what the kids want - and colored I'd only use on the tree, I don't think I'd put colored outside.

ETA: I totally agree with those that said it is a personal preference - just cus someone may say colored lights are tacky doesn't mean they are. They are christmas lights going on a pine tree in a living room that has a bunch of random hanging decorations! LOL come on! Its all for fun!!
