On our tree we do white and colored lights, but the colored lights are blue/purple/turquoise as opposed to the traditional colors, and I really love the way they look.

I don't get why people would say/think that colored lights are tacky. The Rockefeller Center tree is colored lights and certainly not tacky.
As for home Christmas trees, I think they have very distinct looks. Clear is more "elegant" and minimalist while color is more fun. It looks very beautiful to mix the two.
I have never used clear lights. I like the way it looks on other people's trees with the red bows and single color ornaments, but I like my tree colorful and fun.

I dont like white lights, I prefer colored but my absolute favorite are the red and green lights.

Multi-colored on my family room tree and outdoors.
I feel like the white lights are played out. Everybody seems to do them and my fondest memories as a child are of the multi-colored lights, so I naturally do the same for my children. The front yard has greenery with mini multi-colored lights and the shed & kids swingset/playset has multi-colored C-9s.
My dining room tree is pre-lit with white lights, but I wish it had multi-colored lights on it.

White. In my house, colors are for the ornaments, not the lights.
