portable air conditioning units
does anyone have one of these units?? I've seen them in circulars and wanted to try it for my guest room. we have windows that slide from side to side so we can't get an AC that goes in the window

Re: portable air conditioning units
We've had one for a few years. We had casement windows that I couldn't fit a window mounted A/C unit in (at least not one that had a digital thermostat). I love it. It's worked very well for us, and really cooled down DS's bedroom nicely. What I found helped even more is to wrap a blanket around the exhaust vent. Kept the exhaust heat in the hose (and out the window) instead of back in the house.
Also, look for one that pumps the water out automatically. Many dump the water in a pan on the bottom of the unit that you have to manually dump or else it will turn off. We have one that when the pan is full, it pumps the water outside so it can run 24/7 without any supervision.

Re: portable air conditioning units
we have one in our bedroom since we are only allowed one unit for our apartment. It does the job for one room but it is noisy the one we got which was a cheaper model for$90 i think.
I would just get a quieter one if i could go back in time.

ITA. I had one when I lived in an apartment, and it cooled down our whole (tiny) apartment. The only part I didn't love was that we had to empty it.

Re: portable air conditioning units
We have one with one of the sliding casement windows and it works really well- not too noisy and gets the room cooled fast
