Potty Training Q: If your kid was a big drinker
Did you cut them back somehow? My DC#2, my son is a BIG milk drinker. Several big straw cups a day and we're ready to embark on PT but my daughter never drank much so it will be very different with him. He pees alot judging from the diapers. Did you try to cut back their drinking? if so how? or did you just let it go and the use the Potty often?

yes i cut back i stopped the last sippy cup with dinner at 530pm and her bedtime was 730pm i would wake her up at around 1030pm to get her used to understanding the idea of having to get up when you have to go....about 2 months she was completely nighttime potty trained
eta sorry i read your question wrong so i have to add i just cutback at night before bed not during the day at all hth

Potty Training Q: If your kid was a big drinker
No, I didn't cut back. Well, not exactly--at least not for PT. My younger daughter is a very big drinker. She started potty training at 2, which is on the young side for PT, but she was ready. She had a few accidents, but she got it fairly quickly. I didn't specifically cut back drinking for PT success. I'm actually not sure she went more even though she drinks a lot. But, I have tried to cut back her drinking of drinks other than water, just for her own health. She gets one glass of milk, and if she asks for more, her only option is water (which she often doesn't want.) I stopped buying any juice at home because she was always asking for more, and she knew when I watered it down and would get angry. Now, I only buy juice boxes, and she gets one box in the car on the way to school in the morning as a treat for being cooperative. Actually---for both of my kids, I now remember that when we potty trained, we didn't give them anything to drink for a little while before we got in a car, and no drinks in the car. Otherwise, they were having accidents in the car seat.

I haven't cut back yet but I'm considering it. Dd is a big drinker and we are having trouble with nighttime training. Day was no problem, she just pees often. Nighttime she pees often also, unfortunately she is sleeping while doing it! I'm definitely tryin to stop the drinking at an earlier hour.

We, didn't cut back at all, my DD just went on the potty every 20 minutes the first day or two, then she started to realize to wait a little longer and to hold off on the drinks herself.

I increased drinks. The more you have to go =more opportunities for success and practice. DS was potty trained in a weekend at 2.5.
