PP blues, but not what most would think, weight related (long)

So back in 2007 I was a size 4 before any pregnancies, DD#1 was born May 2008 via c-section. By 6m PP with her I was fitting into a size 8, not thrilled, but whatever. That was when we got pg with DD#2. Now I'm 6m Post second c-section 14 months apart and a size 12. Mind you I'm 5'2" so I'm not carrying it well. I look "fine" in suits which I wear when I see clients a few times a week and mostly b/c they are great for hiding my body in a sophisticated and tasteful way. I own no jeans in this current size or any other casual clothing. I still wear maternity when I'm not in suits and I look frumpy and fat. Not sure I want to waste the money on casual clothing in this size, but like tomorrow night we may see friends without kids and go out to dinner (first time since DD#1 was born) and I will wear a maternity skirt or a suit. I'm leaning toward the suit b/c again, I'm horribly uncomortable dressing up this body. I have a baby shower I have to go to next week and will probably lean toward a suit for that too. It's bad.

Here's the blues part. I kinda almost DONT CARE. I feel like with 2 kids, a husband, a house (and we are actively looking for a new one to upgrade to) and a new job - even as flexible as it is... I'm done! I can't wake up any earlier and at night I'm spent. My body litterally HURTS too. Constant joint and back pain like I've never had before (I was a former gymnast so pain has been part of my world). My muscles are so tight, I know something like Bikram yoga would be best - but talk about your time committments! It's an hour and a half class, you sweat like mad and I wouldn't really be comfortable in a sports bra and shorts, but if you've ever done it, you know it's too hot to wear much else. I eat relatively healthy, however, I tend to skip meals b/c I'm doing stuff for the kids or work. My DD#1 is fed only healthy food and I do get her to gymnastic classes and all that. We walk together on the nice days. She is fine as far as her weight and diet and activity level. DH goes to karate classes and is kind of pushing me to do something. He knows I always felt better after Bikram yoga years ago, but he doesn't get that I don't have time. Even a 6am class (gasp - I don't wake up that early) ends at 7:30am, the girls wake around 7:30/8am, I'm not sure I'd get home in time.

One thing also on the food note, I am finding as I'm trying to keep calories down, I am getting SICK lightheaded. I normally have very low blood pressure and eating less, is making me so sick at times I shake, sweat and see stars until I get a little sodium. I've had Vasovagil syncope for a while (fainting spells) but never this severe or easily. I feel like my body doesn't want to cooperate with this weight loss endeavor. Like it's almost ambushing me. My skin feels overly sensitive. DH can't touch me, I mean I jump if he tries to go within 5 inches of that scar. My skin overall feels very wierd, I'm assuming its from the fat?

I know I want to lose weight ideally, I also want to say that I won't use time that the kids are awake to exercise, that is my time with them. Even though I basically work from home and go out only a few hours a week to see customers, I like spending my evenings and mornings with the girls.

Any thoughts, or anyone go through such a strange feeling of knowing what they want for their body, yet feeling like the time commitment potentially away from the kids is not something they want to add. Also the strange "issues".

Re: PP blues, but not what most would think, weight related (long)

Taking an hour out of your day to make yourself healthy is hardly taking time away from your children.

It took 3 years to put all that weight on- it's going to take longer than 6 months to take it off.

I understand the depression that comes with it. As much as you don't want to spend the money- buying clothes that make you feel good are totally worth the money. It doesn't mean you have accepted you will always be this weight, it will help lift your spirits, which in turn might help motivate you to be more active.

When I got pg with DD#2, I still had about 10 pounds of baby weight from #1. I joined WW when I was about 8 month PP with #2. I lost all her baby weight and about 5 pounds of #1's baby weight when I got pg with #3.

I will be joining WW again once #3 gets here as I had lots of success with it.

I think you would feel a lot better if you went shopping and got some stylish clothes in your "new" size. They will fit better and you will feel better. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: PP blues, but not what most would think, weight related (long)

Thank you. I tried to follow points today, for my weight I should have like 20 according to my old book. I almost died, got sweaty, shaking and almost blacked out. I finally had something with salt and felt better, but obviously over points. I feel like my body is sabotaging me. I've never had it this bad where I feel faint this easily. I'm almost concerned about a bigger issue... is that reasonable?

ETA: I'm in my mid-30's what would be fashionable for someone my age? I used to shop at Banana Republic, but no way am I spending that much money. I only have 2 suits so if I have some cash I should get 2 more (I'm thinking clearance at Macy's b/c I need petite). Yes, I live in 2 suits. thankfully I'm never in the same place 2 days in a row. My kids and a great woredrobe though Chat Icon

DH just suggested Bikram during the time they generally nap tomorrow so I dont really miss time with them and we can put them to bed a little earlier Tuesday and Thursday so I can go to the 8pm class. I'm going to pass out though, I know it!

Are you sure you'd be at 20 points? That's awfully low.

Perhaps a call to your doctor might me needed?

Honestly, living in just 2 outfits would depress anyone. I went and bought a few pairs of jeans and cute tops. Nice shoes and accessories. Looking good is a huge confidance booster.

Yes - LOL - it truly is depressing. Any thoughts though on stores that may be flattering and fashionable on a petite person? Banana Republic and Ann Taylor were my favs pre-preg, but they are way too expensive for a "temp" wardrobe. What brands?

You have FM

and Porrrus is right, 20 points is very low. I was at 20 pts prior to pregnancy. They may have changed the system since then. Maybe don't follow points right now. Maybe eating healthy, low calorie/low fat food, in small portions numerous times a day would be better for your body right now.

ETA: not for work, but how about old navy? They are more reasonably priced.

ETA: If you do go with old navy, don't fall into the trap I did. Buy a cut of jeans that is comfortable and flattering. I found that the sweatheart cut is best with my PP body. I bought the diva cut and it was so unflattering.

I was RAIL THIN growing up... Honestly, ever since I hit 30 my metabolism SLOOOOOOOOWED. As long as you keep yourself active and exercise, you'll maintain your weight.

This is the largest I have ever been BUT I filled out since having my son (over 9 years ago) I'll never be rail thing again but I like the way I look now... But I have to work at it keeping a good diet and exercising alot.

Just start slow.... eventually you'll get into it again.

Stay the hell out of Ann taylor. I still haven't forgiven my mother for draagging my in there just 2 months PP with my first.

I'm not petite- I'm 5'8", but I'd assume that any department store with a petite's department would be good.

It's just temporary, but you really need to take care of yourself both emotionally and physically.

BTW- why not join a Fit Mommi or Stroller Strides class? My SIL runs one down in Northern Virginia and it really is a great way to get back in shape and include the kids.

Chat Icon I definitely think Ann Taylor would make me feel worse about myself.

I actually wanted to teach a Stroller Strides class (believe it or not I have 2 national personal training certifications, I was very into health and fitness before the kids, the c-sections THREW ME, trying to exercise like I used to just can't happen and everything I ever knew is out the window, I think the very thought my body was cut open like that from the core just freaks me out when I think of exerting those muscles). I wasn't sure if they do the stroller classes in the winter time. I guess at the malls? Pushing a double that alone weighs 30 pounds, plus a 25 lb toddler and a 17lb baby should shed some fat - LOL. I will look on WW online and see what the points are for my weight and height. I know years ago it was 20 plus the flex points.

I know - I do eat relatively healthy, several times a day is the issue... I know it's not healthy, but with 2 there are times if breathing weren't an involuntary function I would "forget" to do it, I am a moving target. I only eat healthy around the kids. Sure we occassionally have a treat, but I always felt that deprevaton and staunch food restrictions led to more problems than they solve and I want the girls to have a healthy attitude toward food. I'm not really sure food is my issues, I think it's the regularity of it along with the reaction my body is sending and the exercise aspect.

Ohg and I totally agree about Ann Taylor. I went in there last week to buy a gift cert and felt so frumpy just being there...like I didn't belong. Stay away from that right now.

I am so sorry you are dealing with that. I have not had any drawn since the baby was born. I left the hospital anemic, I took the iron suppliment for a few days and stopped, but unbeknownced to my doctor I accidentally stopped my blood thinning meds too soon too... I'm lucky I didnt throw a clot. Anyway, I need a physical, but am almost afraid to hear what is really going on for me. I know I'm no where near diabetic though b/c a family member tested me with their meter, I am rediculously low on that... potentially hypoglycemic, which isn't good either.

Chat Icon I understand how you feel 100%.

You will get there, it just takes time.

As far as buying nice clothes for now. I suggest Ann Taylor Loft and Banana Republic. They both carry petite. I don't know where you live, but the outlets in Deer Park have both stores right next to each other.

ETA.... oops, sorry, I didn't read the prior posts, so scratch my store suggestions. Maybe try Kohl's.

You should def visit your Primary Doctor, your thyroid may be underactive.

Not sure what cut I need b/c I'm so short... I need something cut that makes the legs look long and absolutely NO LOW RISE - it'll hit my scar... I may as well continue in my maternity jeans before I'll buy those. Plus, I'm f'ing 36... ya know?

I just have 2 little tips, I'm not really a gym lover or exercise fanatic so to advise there I'd be a big ol' hypocrite Chat Icon
BUT let me suggest (for a TEMP wardrobe) - NY & Co. But don't buy ANYTHING full price, all their stuff goes on sale (BIG sales, like 30%+ after it's been out for a few weeks). Join their mailing list and get and use every coupon you can. I always have 2 or 3 lying around... Buy a few cute dresses (wrap dresses in particular are SO KIND to the PP mom Chat Icon). Tunics, happily, are making a comeback with cute leggings, a great look, just watch that your tops aren't TOO big and flowy for your petite stature. You're sure to find a few things you like, with NO guilt because $200 with a few coupons can get you quite a few staple pieces you can build on. :)
Also you mentioined you occasionally skip meals - try NOT to do that; your body really does go into "shock" mode when you skip eating, so your metabolism will slow down, and start to conserve calories and fat. Skipping meals is a disaster if you're trying to lose weight. So try to eat something, even if it's a granola bar, just to keep the hunger pangs away and keep that metabolism moving!!!
Best of luck!!!!

Re: PP blues, but not what most would think, weight related (long)

My body was never the same after DD. I also did not want to take time away from "our time" to work out. During the summer I would go running after her bed time. But now that it's dark I don't anymore. Plus I am pregnant with #2 and nauseous at night.

You need to stop wearing maternity clothes. That won't help. And you can't starve yourself either. That will just slow down you metabolism, not to mention it is not good for you.

This is important to you. You should dedicate some time during the day just to make yourself feel better. I was NEVER a size 4, so I don't have as much work as you do. If you can come to terms and be a healthy size 8, then that is what I would strive for. You will be happier and therefore and happier mother and wife.

Seriously! I'm not sure about you, but this height, it was hard when I was thin to find jeans that didnt drag on the floor. I should make my taylor go public and tell other's to buy stock. Its so funny!

I do have Wii fit - got it for DH. He is an athletic guy and he really got sweaty and was breathing hard... is that okay post a c-section? My doc just said after my 6 week that I could exercise, but didn't really give much guidence... I've never recouped from something like this. I'm not sure we are done having kids so I don't want to do any damage to my insides. KWIM?

Thank you, I will check out NY & Co. Haven't been there in a while, but your ideas sound good to me. I so agree about the skipping meals... it's not intentional. When I am out for work I'm on the road... not in any one place and that's where meal skipping happens most, altough I can't tell you how many times there isn't enough of some healthy left over so we sacrifice it and just give it to DD so we know she's fed, and we go to bed hungry. It's bad, I know but who can think by 9pm?

OK well, here's the good news, you don't have a "time" problem, you have a PLANNING problem Chat Icon Chat Icon

Just a few little tweaks in your weekly planning might ELIMINATE this problem altogether!!! Are you underestimating your weekly shopping?? Maybe you need more food IN the house now, since you're working from home mostly and you're trying to eat more healthfully?
Can you load up on healthy stuff that "keeps" so you're not constantly running to the store or running out of healthy meals/snacks?

THings like eggs (I love a late night omelette!), bananas, protein bars, whole wheat crackers, skim milk cheese, etc. They last a while and can ALWAYS be on hand!!!

Are you sitting down to plan meals out for the week? I lurk on Food, never post, but there's a weekly food plan thread that I've gotten some great meal planning ideas from. Usually I "wing" it with dinner but I try to take an hour on Sunday and at least make an outline for food for the week... that really might help make your cooking/eating more "organized" and healthier!!
