Thank you, I will check out NY & Co. Haven't been there in a while, but your ideas sound good to me. I so agree about the skipping meals... it's not intentional. When I am out for work I'm on the road... not in any one place and that's where meal skipping happens most, altough I can't tell you how many times there isn't enough of some healthy left over so we sacrifice it and just give it to DD so we know she's fed, and we go to bed hungry. It's bad, I know but who can think by 9pm?

OK well, here's the good news, you don't have a "time" problem, you have a PLANNING problem Chat Icon Chat Icon

Just a few little tweaks in your weekly planning might ELIMINATE this problem altogether!!! Are you underestimating your weekly shopping?? Maybe you need more food IN the house now, since you're working from home mostly and you're trying to eat more healthfully?
Can you load up on healthy stuff that "keeps" so you're not constantly running to the store or running out of healthy meals/snacks?

THings like eggs (I love a late night omelette!), bananas, protein bars, whole wheat crackers, skim milk cheese, etc. They last a while and can ALWAYS be on hand!!!

Are you sitting down to plan meals out for the week? I lurk on Food, never post, but there's a weekly food plan thread that I've gotten some great meal planning ideas from. Usually I "wing" it with dinner but I try to take an hour on Sunday and at least make an outline for food for the week... that really might help make your cooking/eating more "organized" and healthier!!

Wow, those are some pretty good tips. I didn't see it that way. I just think that on Sunday I need to make something that will feed us for dinner for 5 days (while I work from home, there are still challenges of getting involved in cooking and then the blackberry calls - KWIM?) as well as DD's lunches... which my poor nanny - every day she asks "so what is g having for lunch today?" and after a moment of panic I make a few boring suggestions. I do need to put more effort into a menu so to speak. I'm not a chef and I don't love to cook, so it's better if I know exactly what I need and all that you mentioned. I didn't know about the meal planner thread.

Question on this point... DD#1 is over a year old obviously, if I make things with say skim milk or 2% cheeses - are those okay for her to eat? I cannot do the restauant thing where everyone eats something different. DH swears the pediatrician said lower fats were ok, but I don't remember him saying that. She's not at any risk for being an overweight child (other than family history, but our families eat horrifically). I read that they can only have lower fat foods if the child is at risk. Can someone clarify this for me. TIA!

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you definitely CAN cook meals with lower fat/part skim milk/dairy products, but your little one (sorry I'm not certain of your kids ages?) will need to get the calories/fat elsewhere (like YoBaby full fat yogurt, whole milk cheese, and of course regular whole milk). So if you're cooking using the lower fat/calorie options for yourselves (and I absolutely agree, no short order cook around here either!!!), just make sure she gets the proper fat each day and you're OK. I *know* there are much better informed mommies on healthy eating on here so I won't overstep my knowledge on the subject for fear of giving you misinformation!!! Chat Icon

I'm sorry you are going through this. I am overweight also and though I lost a lot of weight after having my boys-some of it has creeped back on and the stomach doesn't help either(carrying twins f's up your stomach)

Maybe try just eating clean and healthy rather than dieting. My DH and I try to do this as often as possible.

Ezekiel bread or they have english muffins now with natural peanut or almond butter and bananna
salads with mixed greens, chicken or fish, fruit, nuts vinagrettes
I have been eating a whole wheat pita with hummus and some grape tomatoes for lunch and it actually fills me up

Eat fruits and veggies and try to buy organic. You will definitely feel better

Just wanted to address the lower fat foods-they are fine. My Dr said I could give my son 2% milk since I though he was lactose intolerant and its only available in 2%(organic) Just make sure she is getting enough healthy fats other places

I pretty much have a similar story here, so I truly know how you feel Chat Icon

On top of 2 pregnancies & the IF meds I was on for both- I also was diagnosed with hypothyroidism (along w/ PCOS Chat Icon ) ...

Have you had any blood drawn ?

I am so sorry you are dealing with that. I have not had any drawn since the baby was born. I left the hospital anemic, I took the iron suppliment for a few days and stopped, but unbeknownced to my doctor I accidentally stopped my blood thinning meds too soon too... I'm lucky I didnt throw a clot. Anyway, I need a physical, but am almost afraid to hear what is really going on for me. I know I'm no where near diabetic though b/c a family member tested me with their meter, I am rediculously low on that... potentially hypoglycemic, which isn't good either.

You really should though...

You never know, maybe theres something going on that a supplement or meds can help with Chat Icon

I myself just started taking Zumba, 1 night a week for a 1 hour class ( at night afer the kids are asleep, so I don't feel like I am losing any time with them).....It's slow, but its a start...My next step is maybe Wii fit..

Good Luck !!!!!

ETA- BTW, I'm 5-2 also and had 2 c-sections....We need to find a 2-fer saleon jeans Chat Icon

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
Seriously! I'm not sure about you, but this height, it was hard when I was thin to find jeans that didnt drag on the floor. I should make my taylor go public and tell other's to buy stock. Its so funny!

I do have Wii fit - got it for DH. He is an athletic guy and he really got sweaty and was breathing hard... is that okay post a c-section? My doc just said after my 6 week that I could exercise, but didn't really give much guidence... I've never recouped from something like this. I'm not sure we are done having kids so I don't want to do any damage to my insides. KWIM?

Chat Icon - Short people unite ! When I was thin I couldn't find jeans that were small enough and now it's almost the opposite (without looking like Grandma Tilly)Chat Icon

As for excersing, my doc gave the same instructions ( 6 weeks ) ..After that , I see no reason why you could not do more ( obviously slow and steady)...We also are on the fence about #3 which is adding to my angst about my current weight....

As silly as it is ( and should NOT be the way I am thinking)- I say "why put my self through the stress of losing weight, only to put it back on again?" The rational side tells me that teh heavier I am going into another pregnancy, not only the harder it will be to come off, but how much more uncomfortable I will (not to mention the health aspect Chat Icon ) Ugh !!Chat Icon

Re: PP blues, but not what most would think, weight related (long)

old navy is good for temp wardrobes. i got some of my pp stuff from there.

as for dieting, this may sound weird, but my dad is on nutrisystem and they actually have a really good plan. not the foods you buy, necessarily, but the IDEA is good. you eat one of their foods (about 150-200 calories) then supplement with a whole bunch of grocery items so you're never really hungry. fm me i'll send it to you if you want.

as for the shakes/skin thing - you really need to go to the doctor. it may be nothing, it may be something, but you need to find out. it may even work in your benefit. for example, i felt the same way in the first few months after dd was born. my weight also didn't move AT ALL. i started taking a really good prenatal catered to my diet (i'm a vegetarian) and the difference was like night and day. i felt SO much better and the weight started coming off. maybe at least look into a good vitamin to take.

Re: PP blues, but not what most would think, weight related (long)

Thank you all. I'm going to make an appointment with my internist this week. As much as I hate to go to the doctor, maybe I should have the iron level retested to make sure I'm not still anemic. My energy level is not very good and as previously mentioned I feel some definite physical problems.

I'm going to search for the Levi jeans on line... get them in my current size. I appreciate all the insight and support. I know - having kids like it or not, bodies are never the same, but totally worth the price. I wouldn't trade my kids to be a size 4 or 2 or 0. I guess that's why the extra weight isn't "bothering" me in the sense that I want to obsess over getting into a sexy bikini (yeah, ok can we say c-section scar - LOL). I just don't like the pain and not having anything to wear and looking sloppy.

Anyone know if at this height (5'2") a Petite Short is appropriate? I am ordering on line through Macys and the colors I want in a 12 are only PS. Amazon has them in 12P as well as PS, so wanted to get an idea... don't like my jeans dragging on the floor. Price is the same, but just want to know which to go with.

I agree! Even thought I hated having to buy new clothes close to my maternity size I felt a lot better wearing those clothes then putting on my maternity clothes.

If you don't like them dragging then get the petite. At 5'2 almost all of my jeans are petite unless I wear high heels Chat Icon
