Pre-School Moms, how would you react to this...
I wrote a really lovely letter in the communication notebook to Jack's pre-school teacher.
This was her response PS, verbatim...
"p.s. I encourage all parents to send in only healthy snacks (like the apples). We usually only eat junk food at parties!"

As a former preschool teacher, I would probably not be offended, but I could see how someone would be. I may have phrased it different, but I know at the preschool I used to work at, we sent out guidelines for snack. We would tell them apples, yogurt, raisins, crackers, cheese sticks, cut grapes, etc. were fine, but no cookies, candy, cakes, chocolate, etc. Maybe she wasn't singling you out?

I would feel the tone was a little harsh maybe...What did you send? She could have went about that comment in a MUCH different way.

I'm just as confused as you are and I have no idea if I was being singled out or if she wrote that in every book.
I sent him to school with:
low-salt ham on whole wheat bread
a sliced, peeled apple
a small container of whole grain gerber puffs
a small container of earth's best organic wheat crackers
W.T. H ????
I was so insulted by her use of the term "junk food". I don't know if it was a blanket statement she included for everyone, but there's a MUCH nicer way of saying what she did
Not to mention that he came home with a FULL container of water that I sent him in with.....did he drink nothing all day??? His clothes were covered in paint, face was dirty and his diaper was half hanging off his azz (looked like they changed him standing up) and his fly was down.
and you're worried about the puffs???

I don't think she was referring to you.
My preschooler doesn't have to bring in a snack, but my first grader does. And she constantly complains to me about having to eat a fruit/vegetable for her snack, but her friends bring in cookies, cake, cheese doodles, chips, etc.
They probably sent that out so there wouldn't be a problem with the kids who have healthy food whining for the junk food.

If it hadn't said (like the apples) I would think it was a generic statement, but that seems pretty pointed to me.
I'd probably ignore it the first time and then if something like that was said again I'd talk to the teacher face to face to try to understand what specific food item she was objecting to.

The apples is why I feel like it was not generic as well. Plus...it wasn't like it was a typed note she sent home to all the kids.....it was hand written in his notebook, followed by other comments specifically about Jack and his nap etc.
I'm still just shaking my head. I responded in the notebook by asking her what made her think those items were junk food and for her to please provide me with a list of suggested alternatives
