preggo crashing with bottle question

I am hoping to breast feed for the first 6-8 weeks. I might supplement from the very beginning.

My question is which bottles do you use. Can you use the same bottles for formula and pumped breast milk? What kind do you like? I was told by a friend that the Born Free bottles were really good but she does not breastfeed so I wanted all the BTDT moms opinions Chat Icon

Also, if I am planning on BF, how many bottles do I really need to register for?

I used Dr. Brown's and we used them for both formula and pumped milk

I wouldn't register for TOO many bottles, you *might* have to try a different one...I think I registered for a starter type box set of Dr Brown's

You usually can get a couple of bottles from the hospital too, at least I could at mine...whatever they give you, take!

Avent bottles. They have a wide nipple base.

Re: preggo crashing with bottle question

best advice is to start with a selection, see which one DC and then you like.

My DD wasn't picky, she'd take whatever you gave her, and we tried a few different ones when she had gas issues, with no luck, so in the end we used the ones that we liked best, the playtex drop-ins. SOOOO easy.

Re: preggo crashing with bottle question

We use Born Free and LOVE them! I am EBF but when my son was 2 weeks old we introduced the bottle (with pumped BM) and he now has about 3 bottles a week. I agree with the PP who said not to register for too many bottles, bc you may have to try different brands until you find one that your baby likes. We just registered for the Born Free Starter gift set. GL!

I BF, we only tried the Medela ones that come with the pump and the playtex drop ins. He was fine with both.

I wouldn't register for too many, as PPs have said some babies are particular about which ones they will use and some have gas issues.

Re: preggo crashing with bottle question

as a mom who has been EBF for 10wks and trying to introduce bottles now, my advice is this...

get SINGLES of a few types.

each baby is different, and takes and likes different ones. i stocked up on dr browns, because i heard great things about them and she doesn't like them. she doesn't like any of them.

with that being said, you never know what your LO will take to or not take to. it may or may not be the same as your friends LO. i would get a few of each bottle, avent, born free, dr browns, drop ins (borrow what your friend has to save $).

once you see if and what your LO prefers, then you can go get more of those bottles!

Re: preggo crashing with bottle question

DD was EBF for 5 months and when we introduced a bottle of pumped milk around 6 weeks it took a few to find the right one. She flat out refused the born free and dr. browns bottles, but LOVED the playtex drop ins with the slow flow nipple. Looking at them, I could totally see why... the playtex drop ins nipple was softer and smaller than the other two.

But, i'd get a few different ones and see what works.
