pregnancy and Sinus Issues?

Before pregnancy I had the occasional sinus flare up.

During pregnancy I have suffered with sinus congestion every single night that I sleep practically sitting up and wake up all night long with stuffiness.

Now, at the end of pregnancy, for the past week I have been dealing with awful sinus congestion all day long, pressure, headache etc. It's been a week and have not taken anything except used the netti pot which helps temporarily.

My question..is this just a long flare up? Doesn't feel like a cold and not bad enough for an infection. However, at 37 weeks it's making me miserable...what to do??

Thank you Chat Icon

Re: pregnancy and Sinus Issues?

I hope it is a long flair up because I have it so bad and it basically has been throughout my entire pregnancy give or take a few weeks. But my post nasal drip is so bad that I wake up every morning with gook in my throat and the only way to get it out is to actually vomit. I have actually been getting nervous and wondering if I should make an apt with an ENT or just wait until after baby comes and see if it goes away. It never happened before pregnancy but it is getting really bad and affecting the quality of my sleep. Hope you feel better and hope it ends for both of us soon

Mine were awful when I was pg. My ob said I can take clarion d. So every morning I had a cup of coffee with a clarion. They saved my sanity.

I've been so stuffy and congested too! I'm sorry that you're all going through this, but I feel a little better knowing its a preg "thing" and I'm not just suddenly sinus crazy!

With a few days left in my pregnancy I have a full blown head coldChat Icon
I have not stopped blowing my nose for a few days and just want to crawl into bed. Talk to your Dr. to see what you can take. I know Benedryl is ok.

Re: pregnancy and Sinus Issues?

My sinus' totally swell up during PG, I am always feeling congested and have headaches a lot. I keep a bottle of saline spray near me at all time to try to keep the passages clear and moist.

one of the fun parts of being PG.

I picked up a sheet at the doctors office and it said you could take Tylenol Sinus. I would try that.

Re: pregnancy and Sinus Issues?

I know the feeling...I've been dealing with colds, sinus infectilon and stuffiness since 22 weeks. I use the netti pot almost every night and when I am desperate I use nasal spray; I try not to use it, but sometimes I have to.
Also vicks steam.
Feel better

I have been so stuffy too! I read it was a PG symptom in one of my books. Never knew that.

Re: pregnancy and Sinus Issues?

I've been really stuffy most of the pregnancy so far. I usually sleep with my mouth open and especially have with the stuffiness so that has been leading to a lot of sore throats. I have to have the fan on at night, and last night I remembered that I have a humidifier in the linen closet. That definitely helped me last night. At least when I woke up this morning I could clear everything out quickly.

Re: pregnancy and Sinus Issues?

i've been a little stuffy for the past week or so.
i've been using a neti pot and breathing in steam w/ 2 drops of eucalyptus oil.
that's been helping me.

Re: pregnancy and Sinus Issues?

I have allergies to begin with, but now that I'm pregnant it's even worse. I'm sneezing more than normal, which is excessive to begin with and my nose is always stuff. I also get sinus headaches and pressure more often. I've been using Saline nose spray and that seems to help a little bit

Re: pregnancy and Sinus Issues?

Spoke to my OB today and she said I can try Afrin for relief for 3 days or Actifed or Sudafed. If by Friday the "non typicaly" stuffiness hasn't subsided then she will perscribe a ZPack.

Hope you all get some relief soon!! Chat Icon
