Jill is the 50mm lens the same as the "Nifty 50"?
For some reason the autofocus is kinda wonky on it. Not sure if there's something wrong with my lens or the 50 mm in general, but it's been that way since I got it. .
I have that lens too, and have the same problem with auto-focus.
Great pictures ladies!
I'm glad to know it's not me! I was just starting to think I did something to it to make it that way! I took pictures of the pink ombre cake that I made for my sister's birthday and they are TERRIBLE! So blurry because I was in a rush and just auto-focused it. WAH! Now I'm just going to have to make the damn cake all over again and it was a PITA! LOL! My hand is STILL cramped from it.
How sad is this story?

Re: Project 365!!!
It looks to me like it was very low lighting which may have made it harder for your autofocus to get an accurate focus point. If you had it set on program mode to automatically set the shutter speed it would have given you a slow shutter speed under low light conditions too and trying to hand hold under low light would likely give you a bit of motion blur. Harsh lighting overhead is giving you lack of definition on the top and darker shadows on the sides and underneath too.
Tips to help next time, use a tripod if available. If not, try leaning against a counter or wall, spread your feet and keep your elbows close to your body to increase stability. I like to use my left hand to cradle under the camera and lens instead of just grabbing the left side, I find it more stable. If it's daytime, position the cake near a window (but not in direct sunlight) to get additional light. Have someone hold a large white panel (foamcore board, poster board, even a bed sheet) opposite the window to bounce light back. You want to be close to your subject, just out of frame. If you're shooting at night you'll need to work with artificial light sources to get the shot.
Take a look at these quick tutorials on lighting for food photography. Hover over the pictures to see what each tutorial covers. The Tomato at the top and the one right below it should give you some good ideas.
The cake looks yummy! I hope it tasted just as good. I look forward to seeing your next photo attempt on the cake, round 2.

Yeah, the lighting in my house is terrible! Normally when I'm taking photos I go dragging all the lamps I have into one room and just wing it. lol! But I didn't have time to this time. Boooooooo! I'm going to check out those tips though! Thank you so much for sharing!

Re: Project 365!!!
I came to the conclusion last night that I am a really messy baker. No wonder it takes me forever to clean up.
ETA: But the result is always worth it! This is what I whipped up last night, in honor of St. Patrick's day- Green Velvet Shamrock shaped Whoopie Pies.
Mmmmm creamy goodness.

Thank you so much!!! I can't wait to see what you shoot!
Here's my photo for today!
There were these steel footprints going over the metal subway grates. Looked cool and I followed them because I HATE walking on those grates.
And then a bonus pic! I just saw this display on the corner where the Roger Smith Hotel is. It's just all giant bear statues. I liked the smoochy ones.
Both taken and edited with Instagram on the iPhone 4S.

Re: Project 365!!!
Hey there! Here's some photos taken with my iPhone 4S and edited with Instagram.
I forgot how much I loved ring pops!
I just really liked the vines.
The Toy Story themed cake my mom and I did for our cousin's son.
A is for Aldo Perfume.
My friend wanted to come with me so we tried to pack her in our suitcase. She totally fit!
On our way to Punta Cana!
Aviators.
Mid-flight.
The view from my hammock.
The pool at night.
My DH and I on horses on a bottle of rum.
The beach- unedited.
The beach, edited with Instagram.
It was so hot in DR that the plane was filled with condensation. It was a little creepy, honestly!
What I was reading...
Goodbye DR.
Us by the pool.
The Goddess of the Moon.
"You have brains in your head and feet in your shoes, you can steer yourself in any direction you choose."
Flowers from my DH, just cause.
Breakfast compliments of my MIL. It's not quite room service, but it'll do.

Re: Project 365!!!
Some more Instagram photos to share!! Here's a few from the holiday weekend. All taken with iPhone 4S and then edited with Instagram.
My sweet little love muffin.
Neon green lace shorts, close up.
Picked up this booze in DR, it was sooooooooo good with Sprite.
Jenga!
TV Scene It- obviously we had a game night this weekend! lol!
Lucy butt.
75 Twisted Tea bottle caps. Twisted Tea is my favorite alcoholic beverage! People submit photos that Twisted Tea prints on the back of their bottles. I've been trying to get on the back of a bottle to no avail! So I figured I'd save the caps and do something fun with them.
My sister's sugar glider. I know I've posted photos before, but he's not usually up during the day. So when he popped his head out Saturday afternoon, I had to snap a few pics.

Re: Project 365!!!
Wanted to share some photos from my recent trip to DR. I don't know why I waited so long to post these here! Just a few of my fave shots!
Birds in the hotel lobby.
The .45 mile long pool. Swoon.
Palm trees.
My DH in our hammock.
Poolside beds.
A bird that likes to bite.
I just loved the reflection of the trees in the pool.
Turtle.
They had flamingos at the resort! And you could feed them!
This was the coolest bird. We were feeding bread to the ducks and flamingos and this bird would steal pieces of bread, but not to eat. He'd drop the bread into the water and wait until a fish tried to snatch it and then he'd grab the fish! It was amazing. DH and I stood there for 20 minutes trying to snap this pic! lol!
For some reason boarding/exiting the plane via stairs was the coolest thing in the world to me.
The whole airport in general was really cool. It was very open and resort-like. This was the view from the food court!
ETA: These are all taken with my Canon Rebel XS with the kit lens.

Re: Project 365!!!
Some more recent photos! Taken with Canon Rebel XS, unedited.
Lucy, barking at the camera. At least she didn't attack it this time. Please don't mind the dirty toys at her feet, we just came in from the yard.
Citronella lamp from a weekend BBQ.
Boozey.
More boozey.
My DH being goofy.
Bothering Lucy some more.
I love when her ears perk up and she gets those adorable wrinkles on the top of her head.
Lady-butt.
Really loved how this one came out!
These aren't the greatest photos, but I was snapping pics while my mom, my sister, and I gardened in front of my house. And Prince Charming himself.
Irwin loved to lay down exactly where we were digging since the dirt was so nice and cool.
Lucy Goosey.
Before!
After!
Gerbera Daisies.
Aphids.
Hydrangeas.
Cookie topped Mario cupcakes we made!
He's my favorite.
It'sa me, Mario!
These next few pictures were taken with my iPhone 4S and edited with Instagram.
Someone took the Paris love lock bridge idea and brought it to Elmhurst. I love it!
A friend I made. On a side note, the camera noise the phone makes scared the crap outta this poor cat and he bolted right after this pic.
Crazy Flamingos at Garden World.
Grand Central Station.
Disco Ball!
Goldfish wishing well.
Dangerously delicious- orange creamsicle-tini.
Lucy-face!
My sister went to Disney and brought me back the key to the Magic Kingdom!
A retro pint glass from my kitchen.
Another beautiful afternoon in Bryant Park.
Ladybugs congregating.
Irwin napping next to me.
Lucy-fur chilling in her kiddie pool on one of the 90+ days.
The gloomy, rainy view from my window yesterday.
Sweet smelling lavender.
