protecting your mattress if water breaks
Have you guys heard this?
I've been told by my sister and cousin to put down a shower liner (or something similar) under my sheets to protect my mattress in case my water breaks. If it does while i'm in bed, my mattress would have to be thrown out?!
is anyone else gonna prep in this way, or has anyone else heard this?

you can get a regular mattress pad-- the kind that most people have on their mattresses anyway-- that are waterproof. You'll need to of course wash your sheets, but your mattress will be protected.

I guess I always thought a mattress cover would do the trick.

You can get underpads also....put them between your sheets and the mattress pad. My water broke in bed with DD....it was a trickle, and I made it to the bathroom before the gush. TMI, sorry Anyway, nothing even got on the mattress.

It was the same exact thing with me - and a good thing too, since we were staying at my mom's and I was in my poor sister's bed!

Re: protecting your mattress if water breaks
i used a waterproof pad that you can buy for the baby..
Its large enough to cover the important area... later on we used it as a quick and easy changing area for AJ ... we still keep one folded up in her diaper bag and have one folded in half in her crib for quick changes too.
I didnt have a gush.. just a trickle but it really did make me feel better about having it under me!

Re: protecting your mattress if water breaks
I just put a vinyl mattress pad/cover on. I bought it at Bed Bath and Beyond for $8. It protescts the mattress and you put the sheets on over it.

I bought a vinyl mattress protector on amazon.... cost $20, and you didn't even feel it under your sheets.

Re: protecting your mattress if water breaks
We put a vinyl cover around the mattress, underneath the mattress pad.
My water never ended up breaking, but the cover is still on.
