PSA- ALL MUST READ!!!! VERY IMPORTANT!!!!! POTENTIALLY LIFE SAVING INFORMATION!
Alexa has been on medication for her reflux since about 7 days old. She was getting her Prevacid compounded into a solution and just recently the GI specialist changed it from the compounded medication to the Prevacid Solu-tabs.
On Saturday, I went to give her the medication and realized that the number written on the medication wasn't the same number that I had been reading for the past 10 days since we started the medication. (the medication is individually packaged in self contained blister packs)
All of the sudden my heart stopped a beat and I new INSTANTLY what was wrong. I checked the back of the medication label and realized I was giving her 30 MG tablets INSTEAD of the prescribed 15 mg. I started screaming to my husband and frantically going through ALL The blister packs. Out of 30 pieces ( one month supply) 8 of the pills were the CORRECT prescribed 15 mg tablets and the rest were the incorrect 30 mg tablets.
I IMMEDIATELY called the pharmacy and unfortunately the pharmacist working was a floater adn not a regular staff member they had me call the specialist. I spoke with teh specialists and we now have to monitor her kidney and liver functions to make sure there isn't permanent damage since she received a HIGH dose of medication for even an ADULT!!!! She only weighs 14 lbs!
I am completely HEART SICK over this...... I am a former healthcare worker and trusted that the pharmacy dispensed the medication correctly and I got lazy and didn't double check!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Double and triple check the MG and medication name when you pick up a medication for your child, especially for those whose babies are on the Prevacid Solu-tabs. We are VERY lucky this wasn't a more complex medication because it could have KILLED my child.......
I'm not sure what my course of action is going to be. The pharmacy is totally blowing me off and not acknowledging the seriousness of this error.....

OMG!
Thank GOD you had the intuition and forethought to check that!
Which pharmacy did you use? I know it can happen anywhere - but the fact that they are not even getting back to you REALLY bugs me!
I am sorry you have to go through this - but I am sure your peanut will be fine. I will keep you all in my prayers.

OMG. How scary! I would not drop the pharmacy issue. I would actually contact their corporate office if it's a chain pharmacy!

Oh.My.God. I am so furious for you. They should be bending over backwards to help you & get the answers you need.
Call them & register a complaint. Pharmacy Complaints
This is an excellent PSA. I was given someone else's medication by accident & my pharmacist apologized up & down. Luckily I only had to pump & dump for a day - and even then I was upset.
I hope she's ok.

OMG Maria! your little one is okay!
I have to say, I'm not surprised it was a CVS. I had a huge issue with them also when I was trying to get pregnant, they incorrectly filled a prescription and because of their error, we missed an opportunity to get pregnant that month. I went apesh!t on them. I got the number of their corporate area (I wish I knew where I put it for you), I called in a complaint against the pharmacist that filled the prescription and within minutes the pharmacy rep/regional VP called me back. He personally made sure they had the correct medication for me for my next cycle. Of course, that wasn't as serious as what your pharmacy did (i.e. not life threatening or anything), but definately do NOT let this go.

Re: PSA- ALL MUST READ!!!! VERY IMPORTANT!!!!! POTENTIALLY LIFE SAVING INFORMATION!
Unbelievable, thank god you checked!!!!!!!!
Do not let this go, A mistake like that needs to be addressed! You should contact the headquarters so they can find out who filled this prescrip. these pharmacists make a hefty TON of money, their job is to be accurate and make sure their customers are safe and recieving the correct medication. shame on them!

We had the SAME thing happen with a CVS here on the island but for a different med. Luckily, I caught the misdosage before I gave DS any!!

You should be patting yourself on the back for catching that - definitely not angry. I would never think to check on something like that! Good for you! Your daughter is very lucky for your quick thinking. How irresponsible of CVS!
