PSA: Costumes with capes (pics) - Bumping!
So we've all seen The Incredibles where the genius superhero costume designer insists "NO CAPES!"...we've all seen the ending & know why they shouldn't be wearing capes.
Today Joseph was walking around in last year's vampire cape. We even smiled at him as he went out the door & pretended to dramatically melt because the sun hit him in his full vampire regalia.
What we didn't notice is that he went on the swingset. With. The. Cape.
His cape got caught on the swing as he jumped off. I'm still thanking my lucky stars that the cape ripped. He wound up on the ground with a piece of the cape tied around his neck. He has a huge red welt/burn around his neck. I tried putting cool compresses, aloe vera all day but he was crying too hard for me to touch. I'm going to try again when he's asleep.
It never even occurred to me that he would get hurt, playing outside with a cape on. We're so lucky he's only shaken up & a little sore. So please be aware of costumes with capes. Make sure if anything, they have velcro versus a tie. Please don't be as stupid as I was.
I wasn't going to post a photo but I want to make sure you can see the severity of it. Please don't quote.

You weren't stupid for letting him play like that-- I mean, he was in your backyard, somewhere "safe". I'm sure lots of us wouldn't have thought twice about the cape.

Yes. Good nothing happened!
The same can happen with scarves.
Someone I know almost strangled herself on a motorcycle and her winter scarf got caught in the wheel.
So no "lose" scarf and a bycicle either.
Glad to know he is fine.

 Thank god he is OK!
This reminded me of the little girl who was strangled by her scarf when their dog thought it was a tug of war toy and pulled on it... it was a horrible tragedy - so thank god the cape ripped today and yes - everyone be careful of capes AND scarves!
