Poor thing!
You are not stupid, I wouldn't have thought twice about letting my kids play outside with a cape on. You couldn't have known that would happen. I hope he feels better!

O dear God I didn't see this last year but WHOA. From your description I expected a minor scrape, but those photos are SHOCKING  Terrifying to think of how bad it could have been  Many thanks for this, it will stick with me if DS ever wants a cape-- it will be velcro ONLY!

I had a similar experience when I was in 2nd grade. I was wearing a shirt that had a hood and was climbing on a monkey bar thing shaped like a rainbow (with the bars jutting out both sides) on the school playground. I slipped through the bars to get down and my hood caught the end of a bar and I was literally hung. A school aide came running over and helped me down. I had a red welt on my neck for a couple weeks. It was a very scary experience. I still remember the shirt, how sunny it was that day and my friend screaming.

Thanks for bumping again. I remember reading this but it wasn't fresh in my head.
DS is now very much into being a superhero and I am going to be super careful with letting him pick out a costume.
