Puppy Training help needed-small dog

This is actually for my parents.

My father got my mother an adorable female puppy-it is a Pomeranian Shih Tzu (designer dog).

While said puppy is adorable, it does its business everywhere in the house except for the puppy wee wee pad. My parents have an older Shih Tzu that uses the pad but the puppy thinks the pad is either for sleeping or playing. The puppy is destroying the house and I figured I would ask here for any advice/tips on training this puppy. My mother bought a spray that is supposed to attract the puppy to the wee wee pad, but no luck.

I am a cat owner so I have no idea about puppies. Any help would be appreciated! TIA! Chat Icon

Re: Puppy Training help needed-small dog

i dont believe in the wee wee pads

for our puppy we literally was on his butt every 5 minutes and would THROW him outside and yell NO if he tried to go in the house. yesss he had tons of accidents, but he quickly learned to do his buisness outside

as soon as he went outside we praised him with GOOD boy! and pet him repeatedly.
we got my pup in dec and by feb he was FULLY house broken

Same here. I never used wee wee pads. I never liked them. When we were home, we were up their butts. When we weren't home, we used a crate and gave them enough room to stand up, lay down and turn around. They had a few accidents when not in the crate and when in the crate, but not many. They hated having to sit in their own poo and pee all day when we weren't home. They were house trained i think within a few weeks.

Great advice given.

If your mom and dad want to ween off the wee wee pads they can get the grass scented ones so that the "old" pup can easily figure out that going outside is the right place to go.

Good luck.
